J-1 with residency requirement needs letter from sponsor?

Hey all,

My girlfriend is here on a j-1 visa with a 2 year residency requirement. For her home country of Indonesia the Indonesian government website says we need a letter of approval from sponsor in support of a waiver.  However sponsors typically need you to serve your 2 year requirement and may terminate your visa if they find out you’re filing for an AOS.  We reached out to the placement agency (that paired us with the sponsor) who stated that the sponsor agency will not assist in an adjustment of status and they (sponsor) will shorten her visa if she proceeds with an adjustment of status.

Does anyone have any experience with the letter from sponsor in support of a waiver for NOS? Do we absolutely need one? Anyone have similar experiences?  I can’t imagine we are the first to try and obtain an NOS from a j-1 but can’t find much info on it on this site or on other online forums. Any help is appreciated!

Yes, if she's a subject to 2 year rule she needs a waiver to adjust.

Hey thanks for your reply. I looked through the pages, couldn’t find anything specific to a letter required from the sponsor which is needed for a No Objection Statement unfortunately.
