I am sure Mckinney (she's never been known for being refined and polished) pushed the cop.

I am equally sure the cop was being a #### in the way he stopped her (cops being what they are, esp with black people).

While I'll admit that might be possible... the cops ethnicity was not mentioned. Her own admission was she did not wear her "identifying" pin.. only saw a woman walk past security gate , bypassing the metal detector.. and with the high state of alertism placed in and around congress/capitol hill lately.. you dont think some cop after asking you to stop (which she ignored and kept going) won't reach out and physically grab your arm? please.

could it have been handled better? possibly. i wasnt there to view.. but come on... dropping the race card this early in the game? or even having to? pathetic IMO.

Doesn't matter to me. Here in US, they have bumper stickers given to service members so gate guard can identify cars belonging or allowed thru gates without having to stop them and ask. Used to over seas too. no sticker, get stopped. no pass, get stopped. security issues.

like i said, used that over seas... until a car got stolen by RAF, driven onto Ramstein back in late70s early 80... and detonated in front of Euro Command. Everyone gets stopped now.

She wasnt wearing anything to identify herself as congress woman... only walked passed security. gets stopped. Other story has her smackin the cop too.. hence the paperwork in progress.

again, i really do not care what color the skin is of either of them... i just hate that always since its obviously black/white... its got to be a racist incident... heaven forbid anything other than that could be the issue

Personally I think she is very much in the wrong here. Like the article said, officials should have a respect for the police doing their job to keep the Capitol safe and seriously, they can't recognize everyone all the time. I hate this stupid race issue, I've listened to it for so many years (the highschool I went to was very racially mixed so this came up a LOT) and I'm just tired of it. Sure, it is definitely a factor in a lot of cases but it can't always be used as the first excuse for everything that goes wrong.

End potentially controversial statements ;)

That's an understatement! Neither of Atlanta's two Cynthias (the "other" is the Journal-Constitutions Cynthia Tucker) belongs in the same paragraph with those words.

'Course the vast majority of Congress/Senate deserves just such cops.

This is one of those things that has me baffled. She wasn't wearing her official ID pin, tried to bypass security and got stopped. So? Who would be screaming if she (and others doing the same) didn't get stopped? Isn't that the point of a security checkpoint?

I'd like to know if others were doing the same thing and did not get stopped. Then, and only then, would she have just cause to complain. Anyone know?

When I worked at a US Navy base everyone was required to show an official "pass" to get through the gate. Even though the armed guards on the gate knew my face, and exactly what department I worked in, if I forgot my "pass" I was told I had to "sign in" as a visitor, be escorted by someone with a "pass" and was not allowed into secure areas that my "pass" would normally allow me into. Having forgotten my "pass" once, I didn't do it again. Isn't this what security is supposed to be about? She needs to understand that whether people know her face or not, if she isn't wearing the pin, or whatever they have to prove they are who they are, she should expect to be stopped and questioned.
