Hello,

My I-485 packet was delivered 2 weeks ago and I opted in for the notification via email when it was received. I still have not received a notification of receipt.

How much longer should I wait before sending it in again? At this point my fiance's k1 visa has expired, we did get married within the 90 days though.

Thanks for the help.

If you don't receive a receipt notice for your I-485 application within 30 days of filing at a Service Center, you should contact USCIS. You can call the USCIS Contact Center at (800) 375-5283, Monday through Friday, 8 AM–8 PM Eastern. You can also check your case status online.

If the package was delivered, you are fine.  Sometimes, it takes several weeks to receive the receipt.

How would you do that without a receipt number?

What others said, it can take several weeks to get your receipt notice. If mailed, they receive it but then they send it onwards. For example mine was sent to the Chicago Lockbox, but the case was handled by the National Benefits Center in Missouri. It was the NBC that updated the status to case received and sent out our receipt notice. So really, you have to give it time to be received and forwarded on, then for them to get to yours and enter it in. It can take time. It was over 2 weeks and our check hadn't been cashed and I was freaking out too, but it did eventually get cashed and all was well in the world.

You do not want to have 2 petitions floating around in the system.  Patience is the key throughout the entire immigration journey.

8What's with all of these consecutive posts?

Noa1 can take up to 30 days to come IN THE MAIL from when the shipment was received, NOT sent before you are eligible to place an EMAIL (NOT phone) enquiry to the Lockbox.

There Is no timeline for any steps inbetween for text, email, check cashing etc.

Directly from the USCIS "Contact US" webpage under "Inquiries based on Filing Location".

https://www.uscis.gov/about-us/contact-us

"Lockbox

If you have a question about a filing mailed to the Chicago, Dallas, Phoenix, or Elgin Lockbox you may email us at lockboxsupport@uscis.dhs.gov and we will answer your email as soon as possible. Please include the form number, receipt number, petitioner and/or applicant name, and mailing address. Do not include Social Security numbers in emails.

Examples of Lockbox questions include:

  • The reason your submission was rejected;
  • How or where to submit an application or petition that should be filed at one of the four Lockbox locations; and
  • Filing more than 30 days ago and not yet receiving a receipt notice."

You must wait 30 days from shipment received to contact.

Please be patient.

I filed on the 15th April 20204. UPS confirmed the package had been delivered to Chicago lockbox on the 18th April 2024. Since then no NOA has been received. I received a phonecall from USCIS today....only instructions were to wait a further 3 weeks for NOA. Hope you have better luck, there appears to be a huge backlog, very frustrating!

Gotcha, so I guess other users are also reporting this for the Chicago lockbox then?

A person on one of the other forums on this site confirmed that their credit card had been charged just yesterday. Their package was received on 15th April 2024 at Chicago lockbox. Seems as if the recent fee increase has added to the USCIS backlog and rampant inefficiency!
