One year old child of a US citizen entering US on IR2 visa becomes a US citizen.

Can please someone clear me on the following points.
1- is that child counted as born USA citizen Or naturalized citizen.

2- do they need to file N-600.

3- do they need to apply for the passport alone or
N-600 is necessary to apply for the passport.

Please clear me out on the steps.

Many Thanks

1- is that child counted as born USA citizen Or naturalized citizen. - None of the above. It's acquired citizenship.

2- do they need to file N-600. - Not necessary but highly recommended. I will recommend you file N600 after getting child's passport.

3- do they need to apply for the passport alone or N-600 is necessary to apply for the passport. - N600 is not required to apply for passport. Apply for passport first and after receiving passport apply for N600 certificate.

Also note you'll need the other parent to be present/provide authorization when applying for a US passport for a child.

Thanks for the reply.

about point 1, what is acquired citizenship, I mean to ask

can this child run for the president

( lol ), or it’s counted as just acquired citizenship.

Many Thanks.

No can't run for president. Only natural born citizens can occupy that office. Specifically to your situation automatic acquisition of citizenship for the child is gotten by the child entering the US as a LPR of a USC. So technically the child is LPR before acquiring the citizenship.

Hello members,

Hope u all are doing fine.

A baby enters into US under IR2 category.what should be done after that.

1- should parents wait for citizenship certificate to come in mail ?

2- should parents apply for N-600 for the baby and pay the fee ?

3- is the baby gonna receive green card and wait for 5 years to become US citizen.

4- should the parents apply for US passport while not having citizenship certificate ?

5- with only the US passport the baby is considered US citizen.

please help to clear above.

many Thanks
