Does name change at N400 interview causes delay to oath ceremony?

I agree, it could in some circumstances.  For instance if you naturalize at a USCIS office that regularly conducts administrative oath ceremonies, those with a name change will need to wait for a judicial oath.  Some offices only do judicial oaths, so there would be no delay.  As an example, my cousins recently naturalized through the Detroit office with a name change, application late (Nov/Dec) 2023, oath Feb. 22, 2024. 

 

That being said, if you desire a name change, doing it through the N400 is a good option.

What’s the judicial oath? So my oath ceremony won’t be like normal oath ceremony with rest of ppl?

It will be performed in court as far as I know. It should be very similar.

Oh then I shouldn’t assume I would be part of next batch of oath ceremony?

Fewer people => less frequent ceremonies. So yes, they typically take a little longer to get invitation to.

I was interviewed on Monday and officer told me there is an Oath ceremony scheduled for coming Sat. I may or may not get added. I was thinking maybe due to name change I missed that oath?

 

now just trying to see what’s the possibility of next batch

Everything is possible. But I'd expect few weeks notice before ceremony. USCIS should send you a letter.

That may be a stretch, but who knows.  At the oath it usually takes between 2-3 hours.  About an hour to check everyone in, and depending on the amount of people naturalizing and how long the judge or facilitator talks another 1-1.5 hours to do the oath and pass out the naturalization certificates.

My wife was naturalized in Little Rock, Arkansas at the USCIS office there.  An actual U.S. Circuit Judge conducted the ceremony.  By him administering the Oath, and by her saying her "new" name, she was granted a Name Change similar to if she had gone into his court room.  Hers was a Judicial Oath.  (Her new name was already on the Naturalization Certificate...they copied it as entered on the N-400 application.)
