What comes after I-751 filing?

Over just a year ago (early 2023), we sent in the I-751 document (petitions to remove conditions on residence) because my wife's green card was going to expire.

She received the extension in the mail shortly after.

We still have not heard anything back from the USCIS after receiving the extension, but apparently enough time has passed for her to now apply for citizenship.

What exactly is the next step in this process? So far, we've done everything without a lawyer and I'm assuming the rest can still be done without a lawyer? Thank you very much.

You can file for citizenship.  It’s actually easier than the I130 & I-751.  The will likely do a combo interview for citizenship.  Both of you should go just in case.  I’ve seen some people say the citizenship piece gets delayed while they catch up with the I-751.  You can proceed with citizenship though.

This is very subjective and varies case to case. This is the last chance for USCIS to scrutinize entire immigration history and deport somebody. Not always it is easy and straightforward. It should not be taken lightly. It's probably the most part of immigration journey.

I totally agree it's worth filing for N-400 if the goal is to become a US citizen. Even if I-751 is pending.

I should’ve clarified that I meant that filing the form is easier.  I spent a lot of time with the first two (mostly on the supporting paperwork).  I’m not saying they rubber stamp it-they certainly do a lot of review and you should only file with no unresolved legal or tax problems.
