Incorrect Chinese Police Check

My husband (British citizen) recently had his visa interview and the U.S. embassy said they cannot issue his visa until he gets a new Chinese police check because "it's not the one Customs & Border Control wants." We lived in Beijing from 2018-2020 and went through a Beijing-based lawyer to get the police check (notarized + translated). Every sample I've seen online looks like the one we have, but the visa officers said there is a specific one needed ("it has a hard cover, almost like a book"). They printed out a paper for us on how to get the one they want, but it's just a print out from the website that we already consulted to get the original check. Our check matches the website's description and I can't seem to find a sample of the one they want anywhere. Does anyone have a picture of one, or has anyone been successful in submitting one?

I'm sure you've probably already seen this, but just in case - https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/China.html

Isn't Hukou (or Hu Kou Ba) the hard cover book you're talking about?

Probably, but if neither are Chinese, they probably don't have one.

The proper Police Report is obtained first, then taken to the Notarial Office (Gong Zheng Chu) for a Notarial Translation.  It comes in a booklet form, but on A4 shiny white paper.

In which country was the interview conducted?

The interview was in South Korea! This is helpful, thank you! Is the booklet form a hard cover? Or just regular paper that is bound together?

Nope. The cover is just slightly thicker than regular paper and a bit wider. The cover says in bold black ink "公证书" and it has 4 slightly eggshell color pages: first 2 pages are the notarial certificate of no criminal record in Chinese then in English. The last 2 pages are "conformity between the translation and original" in Chinese and English.

The above is correct, but depending on location, there may be more pages.  Some offices include and actual copy of the passport style book, and some don't.
