Is it still worth it to send in your I765 work authorization form with your I485 form? And the EAD would only be valid until the I485 is approved? The new fees are pretty high and I don’t believe my fiancé is going to be working anytime soon so thinking about spreading out the fees. She will be going to school in the meantime.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

If there is no need to work or travel, then applying for an EAD is not really necessary.  I know when my then wife applied for her AOS, we did apply for the EAD, but not the AP even though back then it was free.  We did not see a need for travel, and this was before I found VJ and the I131 can be confusing especially if you do not have concrete travel plans and that form is used for other items.  Anyway, the EAD back then showed up in a month or so, but the GC came a few months later so in our case even that was unnecessary.

Good Luck!

I agree.  The April 1st fees have changed the practicality of filing I-765s now.

I wonder if that was the strategy for the fees added to EAD/AP with the AOS.

Cost of EAD application is $260 USD. IF that allows you to work 2 weeks earlier than waiting for GC, it will easily justify the cost. If you have no attention to work legally at this time, then saving $260 USD might be preferable. Also if you think your local field office approves GCs very promptly.

EAD also functions as proof of legal status in a lot of cases/states. It has more use than allowing work. I can't drive without it in my state for instance. Also helpful in opening a bank acc (although not required if flexible on bank)
