Can you put N/A in signature boxes that don’t apply to you or should you leave them blank?

Hello there,

my fiancé and I recently submitted our form I-129f on April 5th however our form got rejected due to a problem with the preparers signature page. As we had filled out this form ourselves with no outside help, we put N/A in the signature boxes that didn’t apply to us. Was this the right thing to do? They also left a very orange Missing page sheet in front of the signature boxes page at the end of the form…as we have no missing pages I am assuming they had a problem with us putting N/A in the signature boxes that didn’t apply to us. Can anyone please confirm?

the only other thing we can think of is we used a parents check, would they have seen this and assumed a parent or legal guardian filled out the form rather than ourselves?

many thanks for taking the time to read this post,

I look forward to working this out,

What sections did you sign?

I believe it is best practice to avoid putting N/A in fields that don't apply to you, and instead just leave them blank.

The return notice makes it sound like the petitioner did not sign on page 10 (Part 5. Petitioner's Statement, Contact Information, Declaration, Certification and Signature).

Edit: I'm now thinking that by putting N/A in the signature box of the Preparer (because you are trying to say that the field is not applicable) could actually confuse the situation and be seen as a signature. If so, and if you do not follow up with providing further details such as name and contact info, the section will be regarded as incomplete.

Ooh thanks for the prompt reply!

We did sign the petitioners section

But your edit makes sense. That would explain the big orange ‘missing page’ insert, even though we thought we had filled it out.

are there any thoughts on the check? Or is that nothing to worry about? is it better to use a check in your own name?
