I posted on here a few years ago under a different username (not sure what it was) to see if there were any others that had experience with adjusting status of an adopted minor child. I got a lot of negative responses.

My spouse and I adopted a child within the US whose parents are still alive. It took a few years, but a few months ago, his green card was approved based on the adoption (by being a minor child of a US citizen).

Just wanted to give hope to anyone else that may be going through the same thing. It's extremely difficult, but it is possible to do. I can provide any general information that may be helpful to others thinking about or going through the same thing.

Are the Parents illegal?

Just curious..in your application to USCIS, did you mention that his parents are alive, in US and without status?

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

I assume you mean the biological parents. We are his parents.

Yes, they are well aware. We had to provide all of those details.

I have seen it done, not easy, and in this situation adoption or SIJS are obvious routes.

I am going to assume the birth parents know that the child can't sponsor them on reaching 21.
