Good morning peeps! Should be fairly warm here today, and the snow will probably melt. I had a crack in my coffee carafe, and I went looking for a new carafe yesterday....oh my, what a production! Everyone I talked to, including the salespeople, said..."throw it away". (meaning the whole coffee machine)

Actually I don't know that I've met a more throw-away society than here in the US! I ended up finding one, so I was happy. Why would I buy a whole new coffee maker when I just need a new carafe? Now, interestingly enough, the carafe was almost the same price as a new coffee maker. So I'm thinking it's a conspiracy!

Enjoy your day everyone!

Carla (F)

Thanks for the coffee. It goes well with the cookie. ^_^

I agree about the throw-away society and the price of carafes. When I first moved here my husband's cousin told me about Gevalia. She said to sign up and get free stuff. So I get a coupon in the mail as a new homeowner for a free coffee machine and 2 lbs of coffee if I sign up and pay for the shipping ($15). Right on. Did it online, get my machine (nice) and tried the coffee (blech). Three months later I received delivery of another two pounds of coffee. Called up the company, cancelled the order, got a refund, kept the coffee, kept the machine. Gave said coffee to

cousin-in-law. Everybody happy.

Carla is you ever go to Key West, especially during the annual sailboat regatta mid January, you may be shocked.

I was.

The amount of bottles, cans, plastic cups, you name it, that fill up their garbage trucks to go where?? (Off their island obviously.) :(

There is no recycling of any of it.

#######??

If I lived in a place such as that I could not function until "fixing" the situation.

This is but a microcosm of a much greater problem.

So many electronics are cheaper to replace than to repair.

Landfills in India as well as other "3rd World countries" are full of our (Western) old computers, etc.

People risk their lives to recycle all they can from such debris, to make their livelihood.

The problem with landfills/garbage is what is leaching into our groundwater.

The one water we have ever had and will ever have in our closed ecosystem, aka our Earth.

(Am I in the Vent Thread? :hehe: I research too much on garbage. Ask em anything if you are curious. :D )

Doesn't matter as long as it's got coffeemate. My cup of coffee is so good this morning, you know how some mornings it's just so darn good, well it is.

I had also followed that up with a rant about recycling and gov etc etc, then deleted it.

Someone just called my Husband's cell phone looking for Ruth's Steak House. >>>clarification - he forgot it at home - I answered the phone - otherwise that comment just looks silly and I would hate to appear silly

Yeah, I was referring to the crack

I need to wrap presents. Firstly because then I can put the tree skirt back down and the cat won't sit on it and secondly because I need to know if I need more paper and thirdly because my 'I need to rap' joke is wearing thin.

I'm sick with a cold and I feel like #######. My stepson had a little Christmas party in his classroom this morning- I didn't go because I didn't want to spread my germs and I felt too yucky. I feel bad I couldn't go.

Also - I managed to get yet another bug bite that got really swollen and started getting the red line coming from it (a sign of blood poisoning) This happened once before in July. I have no idea what keeps biting me and causing this reaction. Yesterday I went to the Doctor- the clinic was great- as soon as she saw my hand, she got me right in to see a Doctor. I got a shot of something in my hip and 10 days worth of pills.

I haven't spent much time outside recently. We don't spray the outside but we do have an exterminator who comes in once a month and sprays the house.

Poor misguided Trailmix.

I wouldn't waste my time if I didn't care:

PLEASE STOP PUTTING THAT #######/POISON INTO YOUR SYSTEM!

It is frying your brain cells as we "speak".

"Coffeemate. What is it? Is it an embalmer? Is it a coffee whitener? Is it a carcinogen?"
