And here is Calgary right now:

Calgary in the grips of winter storm By Colin Zak and Sherri Zickefoose

macleod_trail_snow.jpg

Calgary is in the midst of a bone-chilling blast of snow and wind Friday, and Environment Canada is warning southern Alberta residents that “dangerous” winter weather conditions are likely to continue through the weekend.

Meanwhile, city officials and police are telling drivers to try and stay indoors and off the roads during the snow storm.

Meteorologists are predicting that a nasty winter storm will dump 10 to 15 centimetres of snow across the region and bring icy winds that will drop temperatures and cut visibility.

Strong northerly winds of 40 to 60 km/h will draw cold Arctic air across the province and drop daytime highs into the minus twenties for the weekend, Environment Canada says.

Combined with winds chills, temperatures on Saturday will feel like -35 to -40 Celsius.

Great photo of that snow being out in the torrential weather Trailmix!

It's funny how weather reports are so dramatic.

It's Winter. It snows in some places.

Bah!

And the really weird thing is it is forecast to be about 52 degrees F tomorrow here in Chicago.

We are going from zero to 20 to 30 to 20 to zero and now to 50 and then back to 20s....very strange. Unusual?

And there are people in Vermont suffering an ice storm, and people in New Orleans with snow on the ground (is that a first??), and friends cold in Fort Lauderdale....

Is there anything "normal" any more??

Hahaha!

Yes cancelling newspapers and not watching/listening to news is of utmost importance to sense of happiness and well-being!

It's true.

Then you can selectively choose to listen and read only what you want on-line and/or with public radio from your chosen country/countries.

Welcome to a "new world" Trailmix!

Hahaha!

Yes, I pretty much normally avoid news, in Calgary I didn't get the paper and very very rarely watched the news. Getting the paper here was my attempt at connecting with this new place - in a way it has accomplished that, I do now know more about it than I did.

As for the weather, I don't think it ever has been static or 'normal' - I just think no one was paying attention before !

Actually you are right. and although I have been paying attention for, well, my whole life, I am just forgetful and hopeful.

So doing our weekly shopping today at Wegmans and I came across chocolate soda, and being the experimental person I am, I decided to buy a bottle. Well, I just tried it now and its like a chocolate sensation! It tickles your cheeks and tastes soooo good! I luff it!

Serendipity is great . . . Joe and I were out running some errands today and lo and behold there were garage sale signs up. Always up for garage sales (even when it is not much above freezing), we did our errands then stopped in at a few on the way home (met an 18 year old cat named Bear, too, hehehe). At the second one we went to, we didn't find anything we needed but we enjoyed the craftsmanship on many of the pieces of furniture that had been nicely restored. Earlier this morning, we had been talking about the need to repair a leak in our roof that has saturated a part of the dining room ceiling and were wondering where we would start to find someone to do the work. Well, when we were getting to leave the garage sale the seller asked if he could give us his business card in case we had any type of work for him or knew of someone who might - lo and behold, he is a general contractor looking for small one or two man type of repair work! Joe and I looked at each other - and the long and the short of it is that the contractor came out to our house later on this afternoon to look at what needs doing and to give us a quote. The leak is where one of the sleeves over the vents on the roof has developed dry rot so it is a matter of replacing the sleeve, caulking and then repairing the inside. He is actually doing to redo the sleeves on all 3 ceiling vents as well as power washing the siding on the chimney (which really needs it and our power washer can't get up that high) as well as repair and paint the inside damage - all for a very reasonable price. He offered us references - but we had seen some of his work at his own place and so he starts tomorrow morning. (We're expecting more rain on Monday) We were even wondering if we would be able to find someone to do small jobs like this - and voila! So, serendipity is great. If he turns out to be as good as it looks like he is we may have him extend the concrete patio out back and put up the pergola we have been talking about for years.

It's great when random costume ideas are shown with your coffee!

Good morning all. Went shopping yesterday, we went to Big Lots, I was kind of hoping to find a small xmas tree - but the ones they had weren't nice, but I did get some gift bags and and wrap. Then off to Albertson's for food.

Lovely outside this morning, not cold, not even chilly! Has been a bit cold the last few days, but right now it is 23 and overcast.

roll up the rim. I remember I used to win all the time and then the last year I was in Canada I didn't win at all. I even emailed Tim Hortons to complain about it, and I used to drink 2-3 extra large timmies a day. They emailed me back and told me it was all at random and blah blah.

Good luck at the job Sprailenes!

So, our roof is now leak free! Yay! He'll be back tomorrow to do the inside. The work looks good outside. Since it is supposed to start raining tomorrow night I guess we will find out then for sure:-)
