Im off to Wachovia to close my acounts! Love USAA banking! If my hunch serves me write, i will be posting in the VENT section next. Banks love to give on the run around when closing accounts!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Why are you closing your accounts, flames? Even though my bank was bought out by Chase, I still have my accounts with them. Anything in particular that made you change?

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

That was too easy!! Told thewm I wanted to close my accounts, they asked why, I stated i now deal with another bank and that was it! Cut me a cashiers cheque!!

We now deal with USAA, Have recieved awesome service from them. Free ATM withdrawls from ANY ATM (even another banks) (up to 10 atm withdrawals a month, we never approach 10, maybe 2 a month at best!) And i love thier free service of deposit @ home! I scan my cheque and thats it, its deposited to my account! Dont even have to mail it in! If I have cash, they send me free postage paid envelopes. But I have another bank were I deposit cash! Just better service from USAA, thats all

Yep, I scan the cheque and thats it!! So handy!! The funds are "backed up" by the mastercard that you have to get, but thats not a biggy! never use the MC. Its a free service, I know some other banks have it as well, but some charge you a fee for it!

My bank just got bought by TD, I don't really mind it. My husband's uncle works for them in the mortgage department and was asking me a ton of questions as if I knew ALL about them because I'm from Canada.

Err it merged with Canada trust about 10 plus years ago...thats all I know.

Donne moi une poptart!

 Yeah TD bought out all the Commerce Banks here where we live and we just noticed they changed their signs on the buildings now. Little piece of Canadiana now.

flames-That is amazing about the scanned checks. Wonder how many people have tried to fraud that system so far though.

Other banks a=offer it as well. Wachovia did, but you had to pay for it!! You can't really fraud them, as you have to have an USAA mastercard, and I believe that acts as collateral. I love the service.

Hey, everyone, it's been a while again. I don't post here much anymore since I'm so exhausted from work and health issues.

Réjean and I are moving! The neighbor in the duplex that our best friends live in moved out suddenly, and they asked us if we'd consider taking it. We applied for it, got approved, and we put the deposit down last night! I'm excited but am having some mild panic attacks over it for some reason. The pros are wonderful... it's a 2-bedroom so I can have an office for my work-at-home job, we'll have a yard, we'll live by our best friends (they were the best man and maid of honor at our wedding!), we won't have to deal with screaming neighbor kids anymore, the rent itself is $65 less than we're paying now (although we will be paying gas and water now)... so lots of perks... I guess it's just the stress of moving that's getting to me and the knowledge that this move is going to put me into an awful lot of pain. Hiring a moving company is not an option due to us barely having enough money the way it is (someday I'll explain why in the Vent thread).

So I'm happy, yet I'm freaking out. This is a rather odd sensation.

08/25/06 - 08/08/07 - K1 timeframe from mailing the petition to the NSC to K1 approval at the Montréal Consulate

08/31/07 - Réjean makes the big move to the USA

09/22/07 - MARRIED!

10/09/07 - Réjean gets his SSN

Adjustment of status:

10/26/07 - Mailed AOS/EAD/AP

11/23/07 - Biometrics appointment

12/14/07 - I-485 transferred to the California Service Center

12/28/07 - EAD approved!

01/07/08 - EAD received

02/08/08 - GREEN CARD APPROVED!!!!!!

02/16/08 - Green card received!

*headdesk*:

01/02/09 - Réjean loses his wallet containing his drivers license, Social Security card, and green card

02/04/09 - Our best friends bail us out by giving us the money to file for the replacement green card!

02/12/09 - E-filed I-90 for the replacement green card along with the $370 filing fee (including biometrics)

02/19/09 - NOA1

02/25/09 - Biometrics appointment

05/01/09 - Replacement green card received

Removal of conditions:

01/07/10: Mailed I-751 packet by overnight mail to the CSC

01/11/10: I-751 packet delivered and signed for

01/19/10: Received NOA1

01/28/10: Biometrics (did walk-in due to Réjean being out on the road on original date of 02/10/10)

02/03/10: APPROVED!!!

02/05/10: Received e-mail from USCIS saying the card production has been ordered

02/06/10: Received letter typed on plain paper from USCIS congratulating Réjean on his removal of conditions approval

02/11/10: Green card received

I don't know about the rest of you, but here in Idaho it's unseasonably warm for November. I mean, this is the first year I can ever recall where there was NO snow at all by this time! I LOVE it. The weather is so warm out that when I went for my walk this afternoon I almost wanted to take my sweater off! It's craziness! I'm sure I'll miss the snow soon enough, but I hear we'll get a little bit.

I called back home a few days ago and my mom said no snow in Edmonton at all. Snowed 1 time and it all melted. They're predicting a white Christmas for Edm. She was saying the same thing, they go for a walk and only need a really like jacket or sweater.
