Wow Carla!! I'm sure everything will work out for them but how frustrating! I would love to know which pre-paid service they used.

I'm going to be phoning her at 10 am our time, so I'll update then. They both had pre-paid MasterCards.

Just got off the phone with my daughter's boyfriend. Gosh, the international phone system sucks! We were on like a relay call or something. Two people can't talk at the same time...not that that's what people normally do, but if one person starts before there is a pause, then you're cut off. :hehe:

My daughter was out trying to find a calling card of some sort, so they hadn't even gotten so far as to calling the CC about their cards. I remember her telling me about these cards before they left, and they're like CC's that you preload with whatever amount you put on them. There may be just some glitch (hopefully) in the country their in, because there wasn't a problem up to this point, but then they were in Austria and Germany then.

I've asked her to keep me up-to-date via email on the results of her phone call.

shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Carla-Hows your daughter??

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Carla-Hows your daughter??

I really don't know :( I thought I'd get an email from her this morning, but didn't. I spoke to her boyfriend yesterday morning, and she was out and about looking for a long distance phone card to call the CC company. I hope things are good...I'm sure she'll let me know by days end what's going on. Thanks for asking!

Bonjour!

I cannot get over how hot it is in Chicago for November!

The last two days I was at the Lake in a tanktop.

Is this a good thing???

Great photos Spirit, thanks for posting those, the bean, the trees! oh and i love the fountain.

Well I just took some garbage out to the bin and checked the mail at the same time and my kitty-corner neighbour is waiving and saying helllloooooo.

I would say she is 80 something and seems quite nice - she and her Husband were born in Florida and have lived here all their lives (moved to Lake Mary from Orlando). He broke his hip last Christmas and she is wishing he would recover a bit faster and get out to his workshop!

She already knew I was Canadian - because of course the busybody we rent from would have told her. Ok maybe she isn't a busybody, but she will share info with anyone.

Like the day she came to give me the keys and the city guys came by to read the meter, I guess - and we were out front and she proceeds to tell them that we are just moving in and blah blah blah and i'm thinking, these guys are just driving by in a truck...I would actually prefer you didnt tell them anything about us

I love this...very sweet.

As for the rest of your post, about your landlady, she really needs to be "trained".

Try brain washing her by repetition.

Ha!
