I'm not there yet (except off and on), but I hope to be in southern MI sometime this fall. If any Canucks or polite refugees are or will be in that area and would like to meet, feel free to PM me. :)

You are MOST welcome! It IS calmer here and definately (ha! spelled it with an "A") easier to express oneself here.

Hee hee.

The English teacher in me is dying, you know that right :)

why is no one using the phrase "honorary-canuck REFUGEE!!!!!"

OMG am I an HCR now? (is it like "Her Royal Highness" but with, like, more beer and stuff?)

See there are a few brits on the forum too that tend to be a bit...

prickly?

defensive?

quick to jump the gun?

its not all bad in there :(

you just have to stay out of certain threads which are easy to spot

I think Sharon had a topic on buying a new jeep, and even that got out of hand for a bit,lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Yeah...I did that deliberately...my husband got me started spelling it that way and I slipped once and spelled it that way in the other flamethrowing OT forum. OMG you would have thought I had committed a cardinal sin from the reactions of a select few in the other OT.

What grade level do you teach? I do supportive instruction for grades 3-5 here in Georgia. :)

grew up from Kingston, moved here from Chatham, Ontario - 'here' is just south of Atlanta! Any other VJ Canucks in the area? - besides Joel -and honourary Canadian Karen - who are great and with whom we have already got together twice! (and hopefully many times more).

I'm an honorary Canadian that lives in Atlanta ;) My fiance lives in London, Ontario. Hoping to have her down here maybe in April (*Growls at Montreal*).

I went to the Canadian Day thing in Roswell and it was fun. There were a number of Canadians there. Sadly, being that I'm only honorary Canadian, I still drink like an American ;) I was tipsy too early to stay long. But I got two Molson glasses and a Canada hat to show for my efforts!

I'm in St. Louis. I think there are several VJ members in/around my area. I suggested a VJ supper in September sometime and those that responded were receptive to that idea. No one is from Canada though. But will still be fun!

What will be cool is if when any of us travel, and we're going to be in each other's areas, to meet up for coffee or supper or something!

exactly!

I believe you're our 2nd official HCR now =)

Awww Liz...I was being serious :)

well, because you're the USC to a Canuck, you get automatic citizenship.. trust me.. Thus becoming an honorary Canuck.

edit: the rules ^_^

(however, if you weren't engaged or married to a canuck, nor a canuck yourself.. you could apply and get honorary canuck refugee status...)

=) I'm making all the immigration/citizenship on this side of the *border*, the border being a fictional place in the world of the internets... =)

and Karen, that was soo sweet...

I'm in the KW area in Ontario, and will be near Amarillo, TX when I move. I think Canucks are few and far between in that area ...

Our little Canadian forum is such a friendly place, I love it. People make fun of the 'Canadian politeness' but it certainly allows us to talk about hot-button issues (like illegal immigration) without exploding in a flaming dramabomb.

And welcome to the refugees!

Well my wife Danette is from NS and we are about 2 1/2 hrs ENE from Amarillo. We go over there quite often shopping. You get ready to head there, just message me or Danette <<her VJ Id. We could do a meet.I think she would enjoy meeting another Canuck down in this region. We do have a past VJer from England (Sukie) that lives about 10 minutes from us.

I don't think there are too many VJ Canadians living in my neck of the woods...

i live in the LA, California area...

I was from the Chilliwack, BC area

*waves* Hey everyone! My husband-to-be is from Chilliwack too! He's living in Surrey now, but will be coming to Louisville, KY when all the waiting is over. :)

I had my first trip to Canada in May/June and I didn't wanna leave! I completely fell in love. We spent most of the time in Surrey/Vancouver, but visited Chilliwack for a few days as well. Honestly, if it weren't for the children/ex-husband issue, I would be moving there instead of vice versa. Maybe in the future...

I had to bring home a big can of Tim Horton's coffee... *giggles* I'm addicted!
