Good morning all!

In the last election, in Canada, I did get a few calls from the Conservatives, asking me for a donation  umm no.

It is raining here this morning, think it has probably been raining off and on all night.

High today? 81 / 27 :)

Happy Friday everyone!

1896384215_0306d4859b.jpg

I'm so tired of all the phone calls I've received during the day during this countdown to November 4th. I've NEVER received so many political calls! Actually, I don't remember getting any political calls when I lived in Canada. Is this something unique to the U.S.? I do remember tons of visitors in Canada. People campaigning door to door. I had one person come to the door just last week, and while I told him that I can't vote, I did say that I appreciated the effort to talk to people face to face instead of sending me a voice recording. We had a good talk, and I had a lot to say. :hehe:

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

I used to get lots of phone calls in Canada around election time. I ususally got at least four on the day of the election from campaign offices asking if I had voted yet. One year, my car was in the shop so I told the first party that called that I wanted to vote for them but I had no transportation. They picked me up.

Maybe it's a regional thing. I lived in Kitchener-Waterloo.

~ Catherine

I should have qualified my statement, as yes, I would get those calls too. Asking if I needed a ride, or could provide one. I'm talking about the automated calls from Rudy Guilano! He keeps calling me and asking if I know that Obama is a terrorist! :o His message has him speaking VERY loudly. Sometimes when I'm in a goofy mood I will talk to them during the recording, responding to their questions, laughing. Other times I hang up as soon as I hear their voices. They are usually from someone who has an ear catching name and they spout their #######. If you hang up before the recording is over, and then pick up the phone again, they're still there. They tie up the phone. Apparently they're exempt from the no-call list.

Ok Carla, first of all, the campfire picture you have in your signature made me laugh out loud

How awful that they can spout lies like that! How awful that they call your home and spout lies like that! I think it's great that you talk back to the recording (but don't tell krikit because she will try to send you for therapy)

I haven't had any calls either. Although, my cell phone is on the do not call and I never answer the house phone because it's not my house and no one I know knows the house number.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

So it's raining here today, there is no real patio cover in the back of this house, just an overhang, so I move the outdoor furniture in to the front carport and I am sitting out there talking to my Husband on the phone.

Now there are a couple of reasons why I didn't want to sit out there, one is that there is a bit of traffic, secondly I decided that ms house owner probably drives by every day.

Well lo and behold, I hadn't been out there 15 minutes and guess who pulls in the driveway  She says 'don't let me disturb you, just wanted to let you know that mower man will be here next Wednesday - I will try to remember to remind you on Tuesday'.

I said - I will put that on my calendar (I don't actually have a calendar but i'm all grown up and can remember that the man is coming to mow the lawn on Wednesday  )

She lives in Lake Mary too, about 5 mins from here, but generally, there is no real reason to drive down this street.

Good morning all.

Well we decided to go over to check out the farmers market, about 2 blocks from here. Well I guess it is off season for farm goods, most of the stuff looked like it came from the store.

On the upside we found a speciality pasta place and I bought 1/2 a pound of - some pepper something pasta and also found a scone place - they will deliver scone dough uncooked to your door (not a huge draw, I can bake my own but we did pick up a couple of already cooked ones).

The best though is that there is a british pie stand and he had 1 sausage roll left! It was very very good, just warming up two pies for lunch, I hope they are as good as the sausage roll.

Steak and mushroom and potato and cheese, also picked up a couple of cornish pasties!

We just returned from a farmers market in falls Church! Wow, pricey!! back home in Sk when u went to a farmers market, u usually got good prices, but of course I haven't been to one back in Sk for a long time, so maybe times have changed!

They did have a good selection of veggies and pastries

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Ditto flames, very pricey. Some things were good, like 4 small sweet potatoes for $1 - basically we got a few brussel sprouts an asian pear, a bag of potatoes and the 4 sweet potatoes for $7.50.

The 'speciality' stuff was really expensive. $4 for 1 sausage roll, even the meat pies were $5 each (discounted because we bought 5) - scones were $2 each.

It just seemed a bit high since it is an open air market, it wouldn't surprise me to pay $4 for a sausage roll in a deli for instance, as they have overhead.
