Krikit,

I'm also sorry to hear about your friend. Cancer is an awful, awful disease.

~ Catherine

Thanks Catherine. You know what's weird? My friend was given a year to live two weeks ago and he's dead. My uncle was given two weeks to live two months ago and he's still going. It just goes to show you how unpredictable life, and death, can be.

This is so truly sad.

How could the doctors have thought a year, and then...

Damn them.

Perhaps he wanted to check out and not go through the pain of dying for over a year.

He must have truly known.

Having watched my partner's dad fade and suffer for at least 7 months before he let go, it was no fun for anyone....and mostly for him.

This horrid dis-ease, cancer, is so little understood.

I have always thought (I mean since I was a kid), that we all have some cancer time bomb in us, and sometimes it gets activated and sometimes it doesn't.

It is interesting that I was into metaphysics before I had even heard nor understood that word.

Speaking of George, is anyone going to see W?

My husband and I are going to see it on Friday. Oliver's films are usually hit or miss but I am interested to see this one.

I want to see it.

It is being released in Canada this week as well.

I get tired of people putting down Canada's system, when they haven't lived through it themselves. I also think its very selfish of people to think that the health care system down here is just fine. They're not seeing the bigger picture, they're not thinking about others in the country.

It's far from fine.

This kind of stuff really makes me angry.

Me too!

And yes, (people who make over $50,000, as you asked S) it is so challenging to have such conversations with people who have privileges.

I mean, they are clueless as to the working poor's plight.

Clueless.

I tried having a conversation about this once on a race boat - a team of professionals making gobs of $$ per year. They just laughed at my earnestness.

Grrrrrr....they just cannot see beyond their noses.

And as you said Spraileness, if, one day they get their benefits cut/lost, they will get bitten.

I am lucky not to like going to doctors and so, I manage to stay reasonably healthy.

Self-heal when need be.

Actually I am terrified of doctors.

I can't bring myself to say that it may have been better that he didn't suffer overly long. There is no "better" when cancer is involved.

On the other hand, my mother suffered so much for so long. It was heartbreaking. A few days before she passed away, she begged her nurse and I to just let her die. She didn't want to take her painkillers anymore because she thought that they were prolonging her life. Those were some of the worst moments of my life.

I did not mean to make a strong statement on what is better.

I just mean I have seen/experienced two beings this year die of cancer and so...yes, prolonged suffering was/is not good for anyone.

Sorry for your loss, too.

Spirit, he had been having trouble breathing (which had been happening off and on) and he was in a lot of pain that morning. His wife and kids told him it was okay to go (he was at home)..... and so he did.
