Josh Freed, Canadian satirist:

On elections Canada vs US.

" The U.S. race even has a major female candidate - Sarah Palin, a one-woman Entertainment Channel, whose antics have enlivened America's race and terrified the world. As happens, Canadians are experts on Palin and know more about her than even Americans.

That's because we share a border with Alaska - so we can see her from here"

Yeah, I chuckled at that part too. The rest of it pretty much sucked. lol

Morning all!! Hubby's home.. and I hope the next time he leaves I'll be going with him.. Man it sucks to get left behind. He brought home school pics of his kids this time.. DARLINGS... ahhh so cute.

The other day his son asked him.. "Daddy when I grow up can I marry Eman?"?

Hubby did one of these

Then Hubby said "but son, Daddy is married to Eman"

His son thought for a sec, and then said "well Daddy when you are done being married to Eman, Can I have her?"

 Kids say the funniest, and cutest, things sometimes. I'm the exact opposite with regard to trips, Eman. I look forward to the day my husband goes off and leaves me in the house by myself for a few days. I think that comes from having lived on my own for so long. I would really enjoy being on my own schedule instead of somebody else's for a change.

Did you guys hear what McCain said about healthcare during the debate last night - that Obama is bucking for UHC and....wait for it....just take a look at Canada and the UK!!

Yes, omg - everyone might be covered by affordable health care :o

Also, even if I did have views that were compatible with McCain, which I don't - I couldn't vote for him solely because of the way he says Amurica - Amuricans want this and that blah blah blah

ahhhhhhhhhhhh - George says it that way too - a lot!

Oh and Good morning!

In the last debate McCain said that healthcare was a privilege while Obama claimed it was a right.

I agree with Obama.

I had a friend down here who told me that there's a lot of things wrong with "socialist" health care, and didn't trust her government to provide her with care.

I can't for the day when she can no longer afford health care and gets a big fat bill in the mail. :)

When the talk first arose of me moving down here, Mike's parents sat us down and talked to us. My main concern was not having health care as I do have health issues and need doctors and specialists.

I was talking about how its unfair that people who don't make enough money or do not have healthcare supplied through work, may be in debt due to medical bills or don't even bother going to see a doctor.

He argued that he didn't know anyone who didn't have healthcare. I asked him: "Do you know anyone who makes under $50,000 a year?" he said he didn't.

He had nothing else to say.

I can only surmise that a lot of people here (the U.S.) have been fed the 'socialist' line and the omg don't let the government take over line for so long that they can't see the forest for the trees anymore - and really that's a shame.

McCain touched on it last night, with that comment about Canada and the UK and something along the lines of how the government will be taking over your health care (the implication that democrats are so very interested in micro managing amurican's lives).

The interesting thing was, not 5 minutes before, he had been touting how people will get tax credits for joining health clubs etc - now if that isn't micro managing - what is.

I get tired of people putting down Canada's system, when they haven't lived through it themselves. I also think its very selfish of people to think that the health care system down here is just fine. They're not seeing the bigger picture, they're not thinking about others in the country.

It's far from fine.

This kind of stuff really makes me angry.

I can't wait for that smug grin to be wiped off McCain's face. I get the same urge to slap it as I do with Bush. And another thing!.... I can't get the impression I have of McCain as a mutant chipmunk with those chicken lips and cheek pockets of his. Whatcha got in there, McCain? Nuts, I'm thinkin. Storing them up for after the election. Hope no one gives him a slap on the back. He's liable to lose a few.

It's funny that you said that because I was thinking that last night - that smug look, the omg I can't wait for you to stop talking Barack so I can say...whatever.

He did remind me of George in that way last night, although no one can do the arrogant/smug thing quite like George.

Speaking of George, is anyone going to see W?

My husband and I are going to see it on Friday. Oliver's films are usually hit or miss but I am interested to see this one.

Is anyone thinking that the same thing that happened last time (Gore was being touted as the next best thing and that he'd win over Bush), but that it surprised everyone when Bush won again. I dunno.. seems like the Dems think this is a clear choice to elect Obama.. but most Rep. that I know are not convinced. Is there really enough "undecideds" to give Obama the lead he needs? I dunno.. we'll see I guess.. I just think it will be tight either way.. it's not going to be a blow out IMO.. the two sides are too polarized at this point (and dug in).

The thing that makes me sad is NO ONE is talking about reuniting the US. NO one is saying.. look boys.. we've got carried away and NEITHER side is "the enemy".. that's what makes me saddest of all.. how will the country ever come back to center when all is said and done?

You're right Em, it's definately not a shoe-in. For Florida the polls seems to be going in Obama's favour - which is apparently uncommon for this state - in terms of being in favour of a democrat. They have also had a record number of people register to vote.

I think in any political party - regardless of country - you are basically putting in place people who want to keep their jobs. When all is said and done, aren't politicians really just employees and won't they just do anything to keep their jobs?

Broad generalization - I'm sure there are a few politicians that are genuinely concerned about what they do and the people they are supposed to represent - however if they were in the majority I don't think this country would be in such a mess.

 I agree...

I watch "The Patriot" again this past weekend and was contrasting the lives and thoughts politically of the men in those days to our current "leader".. yeah.. not so encouraging. (not that The Patriot is a documentary by any means, but truthfully people tended to perform civic duty in those days as opposed to "political careers" today.
