Now i'm thinking that too, I didn't even realize it was this weekend - we normally don't do anything special for thanksgiving, but I think perhaps dinner is in order!

Just got back from the house, relocube was delivered around 9:40 - I just stood there looking out the front window smiling at it, long after the delivery person had left :lol:

I am still amazed that we got so much stuff in that little cube!

Oh and this was kind of funny I thought. I noticed the other day that there was no shower curtain rod, so I mentioned it to her this morning as in - oh I noticed blah blah - is there anything you had to go up there or.....and she said no, you can just get one of those expandable ones etc etc :lol:

Now I don't really care at all, I just found it amusing - she is a realtor - has been retired for 2 years, I don't know that she is out of realtor mode and in to renter mode lol

The house is really cute though and spending time there this morning just confirmed why I like it - there will be pictures!

So a VJer who posts regularly in the UK forum said she's having a party on Friday with friends from all over - UK, India, Canada and wondered what to make. I suggested an international foods theme, with at least one snack from each country. She's wondering what she could serve as a canadian snack.

Now, having grown up on the Canadian border, in Buffalo, I immediately thought of poutine or Timbits! However, having never been to a Canadian house party, I have no other ideas. :unsure:

Any suggestions? :star:

Nanaimo bars...

1942255-Travel_Picture-Nanaimo_B-1.jpg

The Nanaimo bar is a dessert of Canadian origin popular across North America. A type of chocolate no-bake square, it receives its name from the city of Nanaimo, British Columbia. It consists of a wafer crumb-based layer, topped by a layer of light custard or vanilla butter icing, which is covered in chocolate made from melted chocolate squares. Many varieties are possible by using different types of crumb, flavours of custard or icing (e.g. mint, peanut butter), and types of chocolate. Two popular variations on the traditional Nanaimo bar involve mint flavoured custard or mocha flavoured custard.

The Original Nanaimo Bar

Ingredients:

***Bottom Layer ***

* 1/2 cup unsalted butter (European style cultured)

* 1/4 cup sugar

* 5 tablespoons cocoa

* 1 egg beaten

* 1 1/4 cup graham wafer crumbs

* 1/2 cup finely chopped almonds

* 1 cup coconut

***Second Layer ****

* 1/2 cup unsalted butter

* 2 tablespoons cream PLUS

* 2 teaspoons cream

* 2 tablespoons vanilla custard powder

* 2 cups icing sugar

***Third Layer ***

* 4 squares semi-sweet chocolate (1 oz. each)

* 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Directions:

Bottom Layer

Melt first 3 ingredients in top of double boiler. Add egg and stir to cook and thicken. Remove from heat. Stir in crumbs, coconut, and nuts. Press firmly into an ungreased 8" x 8" pan.

BEER!!!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

It's a good breakfast drink. :lol:

They know all about them in Buffalo. You can even order them in the bars. But not anywhere else in the US. They do have Clamato here in Florida, though. I think it has something to do with the large influx of Canadians. :whistle:
