Awww cute pic flames. Looks familiar in fact! I've had a few cups this morning already, but another few won't matter. Supposed to rain all weekend here. I cleaned bathrooms this morning and I'm doing some laundry. I want to have some fun this afternoon. Enjoy the weekend!

Sigh....gas in our little corner of the world is already at $4.82 a gallon. According to one of the gas websites (where you search for the cheapest gas) WE are so far the highest in price.

$4.82 a gallon...and that's at one of the supermarkets....just since yesterday's reported price of less than $4.00

that blows my mind -- we're more than a dollar less here! I do not understand the huge disparity in prices!

Haven't seen gas today but yesterday it was $3.99 here. Last Sunday I filled up in South Carolina at $3.39 - it was about $3.54 at home. Sigh - I should have thought about getting gas earlier while I knew Ike was on its way rather than having to do it tomorrow or Monday after he arrived.

For those of us living in Georgia, Gov. Perdue appears to be taking action:

http://www.wsbtv.com/news/17462066/detail.html

ATLANTA -- Gov. Sonny Perdue signed an executive order Friday activating Georgia’s price gouging statute to protect Georgia consumers from unlawful increases in gas prices and other products.

“The threat of Hurricane Ike has disrupted the production of distribution of gasoline, which will have an effect on prices,” said Perdue.“However, we expect the prices that Georgians pay at the pump to be in line with the prices retailers are paying. We will not tolerate retailers taking advantage of Georgians during a time of emergency,” he added.

Consumers told WSB-TV Saturday that many convenience store chains are running out of all or some gas grades.Georgia’s price gouging statute prevents retailers from selling goods or services at an unreasonable or egregious price. The statute does not prevent price increases that accurately reflect an increase in the cost of the goods or services to the retailer, an increase in the cost of transporting those goods or services into the area or an increase due to the market forces of supply and demand.

“Mary and I hope and pray the damage caused by Hurricane Ike will be minimal,” said Perdue.“Georgians stand ready to assist our fellow Americans in any way possible as they recover from the impacts of this dangerous storm.”

If you suspect price gouging, you’re asked to call the Governor’s Office of Consumer Affairs at 404-651-8600 or 800-869-1123.

They have a price gouging hotline here too, however I read in the paper this morning the Gov. Crist has said that the jump in prices and/or lack of supplies is not due to the hurricane.

He says it is simply a case of lack of supply with high demand

Good morning!

Thanks for your thoughts and well wishes everyone. You guys are the best. :luv:

Everything here has been a roller-coaster ride because my Uncle is on the brink and everyone's emotions are all over the place and we're all just trying to keep moving forward and hope for the best but every time the phone rings we all stop dead in our tracks with a look of horror on our faces just in case it's THE call... you know? He's now had his second stroke and is finally in the hospital receiving medical help and both he and my aunt are finally getting a bit of sleep. My Mum and Dad and Aunts and Uncle and my Cousins are all there. I spent time with him yesterday so today he gets a break from me.

Not sure when I'll be back, Trailmix. I'm here until the end of the week for sure. It seems kind of silly to leave, at this point, because his oncologist told him on Friday he only has a couple of weeks left, and that it will probably be his heart which will kill him instead of the cancer. Only half of it is working and the other half is fluttering.... which is causing the strokes. So now he's paralyzed on his left side and is slurring his words.... which really is quite normal for him after a few bevvies, anyway. But he is able to speak (which his nurses and wife probably regret.... lol.... he can be a ####### can my Uncle Jim) and he does not insert random words which don't make sense into a conversation so that's a blessing. And I think he's receiving medication for his anxiety now. He'd been waking up panicking and scared to death in the mornings, and wasn't able to shake it off (for the most part) until later on in the day. Poor thing. I can't even imagine.

Anywhoo..... work's been fun. It's been like coming home. Everyone's been wonderful. I honestly don't want to leave them again, but my husband says he misses me so I guess I should be thinking about going home again. :(:) Sheesh. We really do need to move to Canada.

Have I missed any good gossip? I haven't had time to read VJ... let alone have access to a computer. I guess this was what it was like before I quit my job and got married.

Good morning everyone. Lovely to hear from you Krikit. I'm glad to hear your Uncle is getting some medication to relieve his anxiety which maybe allows your Aunt to get a reprieve. It's so hard watching someone else deteriorate so. I pray he passes quietly without pain, in his sleep.

I hope everyone didn't get harmed in the Hurricane or it's aftermath's as well. Some flooding here in St. Louis, although I was spared. It was moving fast. I talked to my parents yesterday who said they were expecting some remnants last night.

Glad you checked in krikit, oh - but it does sound like a stressful time for you, i'm glad you are enjoying yourself at work though and that they gave you a warm welcome (although I wouldn't expect any less as if they weren't nice people you wouldn't have wanted to go back there to work)!

Good morning everyone - nice sunny day here in Florida!

Hi Krikit. Sorry to hear about Uncle Jim. I hope you are able to spend as much time with him as you can.

Emancipation-Have you always had migraines? For the last 6 months I have been suffering from terrible headaches that seem to be caused by anxiety, stress or lack of sleep. T hey are often right above or around my eye sockets which makes me feel like someone has punched me in the eye. I still have not yet gone to the doctors (i know!) but am planning to.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard
