I'm in my Psych rotation for clinicals right now. last Friday was our first day. During my talk with my patient, first thing he asks me,or tells me is that I'm Canadian, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Morning all.. sounds like everyone had an eventful weekend...

Heard last night that hubby's kiddos who live in LA are safe and sound.. they didn't have to evacuate, but they lost power and there is debris everywhere (Baton Rouge).. Is anyone else frustrated that all the focus is on New Orleans and NO information seems to have come out about Cuba?? *sigh.... that frustrates me.. THEY got a Cat 5 and I can't seem to find ANY information on how they are doing over there (I am in no way saying LA "got off easy"), just frustrated AGAIN and how we put different values on different lives depending on where they live..

*sigh.. that probably should have been in the rant thread.

We had a lovely time in PEI - it rained the ENTIRE time.. but we were with good friends and ate lobster Fri. night so how can I complain really?

Cute coffee Carla!

Hot and humid here as well! It is actually only 77 (25) degrees here this morning, but it's overcast and I guess it is going to rain. On the flip side it is only 37 (3) degrees in Calgary!

If you are headed north today krikit I hope you took your winter woolies with you.

That's funny flames! Reminds me - last night we were playing world of warcraft (online game) and we were playing with these two people we had never met before.

Just from the words they typed I could tell they weren't Americans - so I asked them. No - they are Canadian and in fact one of them lives like 10 mins from where we lived in Calgary - the other one a bit further south, but still in Calgary

That may be because you only read/listen to news in the U.S.

Other than NPR radio, you will not get anything outside these walls.

Check Canadian and BBC news (on-line, wherever) and read all about the world.

Glad to hear you enjoyed PEI.

So I just looked up the out of country voters registration for Canada - I am going to fill this puppy out and send it in and vote in the Federal election

You will find you are not able to. You have to have a definite return date to Canada and file that with Elections Canada in order to vote when you live outside of the country. Giving a definite return date to Elections Canada may compromise your green card status in the US. It is complicated. In Canada you vote for the representative for the area in which you reside - and if you don't reside in Canada and have no definite plans to return to Canada (ie a visa expiry date, etc,) then you do not have the opportunity to vote.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Here is the statement re: having intention on resuming residency in Canada in order to vote. the form also asks for your intended date of return:

To qualify to vote, you must intend to return to Canada to resume residence in the future.
