Here in the Deep South during the summer I have to have A/C. Without it I can't breathe in this humidity. Now, don't get me wrong. I *love* having the windows open...love the breezes that blow in. Sadly I have to be so careful with whatever is in the air at the time. Having asthma is crappy. *sigh*

Ugh. My husband has allergies and hates when I open the windows. I hate that he hates that.

Actually I like A/C in moderation but the heat keeps me loose so what choice do I have. :crying:

So we bought a weather radio yesterday, after we had been asleep for about half an hour it went off (tornado warning). Anyhoo, my Husband then turned it off

Since Carla isn't here yet, I will open up the coffee area!

OMG, that's an awesome graphic, T-mix! Nice one!

So.... my vent for the day. My husband purchased a weather radio and promptly lost the instructions, so we have no idea how to work it. How'd you get yours to work, T?

Oh wait. I forgot to tell you my vent. It's not that he lost the instructions (though I am rather annoyed by that).... it's that he loses everything. Honestly. He can be standing there one minute with something in his hand, and the next minute it has vanished. It drives me batty.

This one has a brand name of Maitland - bit of radio trivia there for you haha. Anyway, this is basically a 'plug it in and it works' radio. It is set to automatically pick up weather warnings in our county and surrounding areas.

It also has an option to switch it so it only picks up ww's in our county - haven't done that - will see how annoying it gets.

Ours also has a weather/snooze button on it, which you just press to hear the weather warnings - and to test to make sure that it is working (and press again to turn that off).

Hmm. Ours is a WeatherX. I don't see any features like yours on it. Oh look! It has a flashlight! And there's a dynamo to recharge the batteries when the power goes out. I have no idea how this thing works. Guess it's time to hit the interwebz. <_<

This Spring I bought a Black & Decker thingy. Its rectangualr shaped, not that large, but has a flashlight, am/fm radio with the weather warning thingy, as well you can charge ur cell phone off of it!! Came with many cell phone battery adaptor attachments. It works off batteries OR it has a hand crank. It works very well, good to have in a power outage. Was only $30 at Target.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

We have one of those too - haven't tried out the coffee function yet! We gave one to my brother and sister-in-law for their 20th anniversary this year - figure they can use it in their next snow emergency in Ottawa!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Oh and thanks krikit, I can't really take credit for the graphic, I just modified it a bit by moving some text and adding the maple leaf....all quiet here in Lake Mary/Orlando - which is making it really hard for the weather people on tv

Oh and Stacey, it's been downgraded to a 'tropical storm'. Basically all we have had this morning is rain on and off, but it's really not supposed to reach here until later, I think, I have a hard time watching weather news for more than 2 mins. :hehe:

The sun is kind of out here now. Was raining earlier. It's not supposed to get to our area until sometime this afternoon. But we are on a tornado watch until 4pm. You are too, Trailmix. :hehe:

Oh right! The tornado watch, forgot about that - that was the warning that woke us up last night, the conversation went something like:

Me: "Oh it's that weather clock thing going off"

My Husband gets out of bed and goes over to look.

Me: "What does it say"

Him: "Tornado warning - oh there is a button here to turn it off"

Me: "But if you turn it off how will we know what's happening with the weather - doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of the thing"

Him: "Maybe, but now we have heard the warning - so we know what's up"

Me: "ok" zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
