It's just a regular vet but I was told to leave him there overnight... I brought him in at lunchtime today. The results are in but the vets had gone home for the night when I phoned to check in on him. I spoke with the vet assistant who said he was purring and meowing and being his usual Buddy self so that helped but hopefully he's okay and doesn't have anything too serious. My other cat is kinda wondering where he is!

He kinda reminds me of Kathryn41's cats. :star:

He is a handsome little fellow. Sorry to hear about your cat. I hope he makes a full recovery. Not much worse than having a pet that is sickles. :(

I am SO HAPPY about my new job!!! I've been in training for 2 days, and I can already tell that this job is going to be great!

Necrotica I'm so happy to hear that! That's wonderful news!

Had to take Buddy to the vet today. :( He wasn't keeping any food or water yesterday or today and he's spending the night hospitalized. I just called the vet's office and they say he's doing okay but I won't find out until tomorrow what the x-ray and blood test results are.

Awwww poor Buddy! Hope he's feeling better soon and it's nothing serious.

Here's coffee! Kathyrn41 I was hanging onto your every word! You should be a writer. I'm so sorry your wonderful holiday ended on such a horrible note. What airline were you flying? I don't think I understood why your rental car was double what they quoted you as well. And to leave the cheese! I groaned! Poor dear! Hoping you have a MUCH better day today...as I do everyone!

Good morning everyone!

Necrotica i'm so happy to hear your job is working out well!

Kathryn! What an experience

"The pilot comes one and says if anyone wants to leave the flight and make other arrangements to do so now. Then he explained that on their inbound flight some of the readings on their dials were out of the safety range so they called for mechanical help. They found different manuals for that make of plane, though, that had less stringent requirements and these readings were within the acceptable range for those standards so they were going to go by those and continue the flight.

:o - this would have been my signal to get off the plane, seriously...I would have left!

Brown_eyes, kitty will be fine, it's such a worry though when they aren't feeling top notch.

:) I would be looking at hubby (who is an airplane mechanic by trade), to see the level of worry on his face :) tee hee..

*sigh..

Sometimes I wish I could fix people's problems.. there seems to be much pain afoot these days.. But alas I can do nothing to fix another's pain.. only be a listening ear, an honest responder and a constant friend.

I am doing better today, thanks Carla. It is amazing what a good night's sleep will do. Joe is still a little aloof and stand-off-ish but I am just letting him be. He did say thank you after I gave him lunch which is an improvement! So, some quiet time out is helping -plus getting laundry done and remembering what a good time I had. We did have a good time. I LOVE Kingston - it is such a wonderful city and I would be happy to live there again sometime. I'd even be willing to put up with winter which is a real concession coming from me!

Trailmix, I wondered myself about whether I really wanted to trust the plane when the pilot gave that information too! I did some serious thinking - and inward 'feeling' to see if intuition was saying 'run'! Everything 'felt' ok and I have really learned to trust my intuition over the years, but yes, that thought really did cross my mind. I did pay very close attention to the safety 'lecture' though - and we were seated 2 in front of the emergency exit. ;)

Regarding the car rental, I am wondering if instead of charging us the weekly rate they racked it up at either the daily rate or the hourly rate which are both substantially higher. The counter clerk did re-calculate everything and except for that unexplained 11.11% charge it was back in the ballpark of the quote. We will see what comes of the complaint Joe sent off regarding that.

Oh, the airline was Delta. The plane did behave well and we had a relatively uneventful flight. I can see the positive things that happened now that I am less stressed out. It just seemed to be one thing after another though - and yes, I am still annoyed about the cheese.

Brown_Eyes, what is the news about Buddy? I hope he is back home and doing well today and the mystery solved and it is nothing serious.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

if you rented the car from the airport, lot of times they do add on an extra tax!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Interesting. Yes, it was at the airport. I wonder why? I also wonder why it wasn't included in the quote since we reserved the rental at the airport as well and there was no mention made at the time. I spoke to a live person when making the reservation as well, not one of the automatic rentals, and didn't have any extras as our own insurance covers us.

Thanks for all the support everyone! :luv: Looks like there are a lot of cat lovers on VJ!

Just got Buddy back from the vet's and he's doing much, much better. Turns out that his white blood cell count was low and he had an infection in his digestive system. I take it they figured this out from the blood test because the x-rays they showed me looked clear. Liver, kidneys all look good. I have to give him some liquid meds for a week but I was told that while hospitalized for the night he kept his food down and seemed in good spirits.

He's happy to be home!

P.S. Has anyone started a Pet Pics thread yet? Or is that getting way too off topic?

Our teeny timeline:

May '08 ~ 2nd visit to Vancouver

Aug 8 08 ~ he moves to Bellingham

current ~ many trips back and forth across the border...

Glad to hear he's good and back home :) That kind of digestive infection is really common lately, cats and dogs included.

Pet threads, we have a lot of them :P

Cat lovers on VJ ? What makes you say that :D Don't start, we are a lot, but dog people think we are annoying :P
