Trailmix, I hope you and hubby find something soon. Glad you caught onto that scam!

Carla, I miss "morning coffee"...miss being around here too. Looks like after tomorrow, it will only be weekends for me.

I'm so tired...gotta get back into the work mode. So far it looks as if I am working mainly with Grade 3 and Grade 4 and doing Grade 4 remedial intervention. I just hope that I can get out of the building at a reasonable hour. My gorgeous hunny brought me a cuppa Tim's today in between teacher and staff meetings. Just the pick-me-up I definitely needed! The students start back Thursday. Already our daughter is asking when the last day of school is! ROFL!

Ok, I have finally 'settled down' enough to announce "I'm back"! We had a great visit in Canada and I just wish it hadn't been soured by yesterday and today :-(.

Our flight up to Rochester was good - a lot of turbulence at the end making me wonder if my stomach contents would make it inside me or outside of me - but they stayed put. We rented a Mercury Sable (LOVE that car - it was great to drive!) from AVIS and headed for Kingston. Had absolutely no trouble at the border - about a half hour wait in line - and got to Kingston just in time to turn around, go out for dinner with my Dad and watch the Sunset Ceremony at Old Fort Henry. The weather was marvellous! Coolish for us - in the high 70s and then into the 60s overnight. I actually felt cold one night and pulled up a blanket over top of the sheet! We had a great time visiting with friends and family, touring the city, visiting the countryside, visiting my Mom's grave at the cemetery, having lunch with Erin and Jay, two VJers at the K-1 stage, and finally came home yesterday.

The day started ok (maybe I should move this to the vent thread!) - or so I thought. We made one wrong turn getting onto 401 from a new exit/entrance that wasn't there before but got sorted out ok. We, of course, stopped for a last Timmies to hold us to the border. We had about another half an hour wait at the border but had no problems when it came to our turn. We handed over both passports, he asked our citizenships, he asked for my greencard and I said I have a passport stamp, he looked at it, asked what we had to declare - and I handed him the list I had printed out (not a lot). He handed every thing back and said we were good to go.

A few hours later we get to Rochester, got turned around the wrong way trying to find a gas station to fill the car, finally got back on the right way to the airport and went to return the car (we were 10 minutes early on the return). The check in guy hands us the ticket - and it is 2 1/2 times the price for the contract we signed! When Joe protested he said that is what the computer said. Joe said we have a contract for less than half that amount and the guy said he could only go by what the computer said and to take it up at the counter where we pay. So, fuming, (it was a nice car but not THAT nice!) we get to the counter and the girl tries to figure out why we were charged so much more, and finally gets it back down to almost what we were quoted. (Joe has sent of an email inquiry/complaint about an 11.11% unidentified fee.) So, both of us were in bad moods.

We go into the air port and things go from bad to worse. (I won't go into details but we argued about stupid insignificant stuff). Then we go through security - he has checked his bag but I still have mine and have to take out the plastic bag for the lliquids and the one for my medical supplies, plus the shoes, plus the purse - you know the deal. When we get to the conveyer belt Joe doesn't take a tray and move down allowing me room to get a tray - he just stands there at the end of the belt and starts putting his things on, so I asked him to move down and give me room (I was polite). He grabs his stuff out of the tray and stomps to the other side of the line blocking others who try to get by and stands there scowling! So, I grab my trays, get my stuff in and loaded on the belt and he comes back and puts his stuff in and we go through, then re-assemble on the other side.

We are supposed to have an hour's wait for the flight, but it has been delayed 15 minutes. No problem. We wait. 5:45 - the original take off time comes and we are still not loaded. The plane is at the gate and has been for 45 minutes. 6:00 pm - the new flight time passes - no one is at the gate, no one is taking tickets. So, Joe goes and asks an employee some questions and comes back. He says it doesn't look good. Apparently the plane has mechanical problems and they don't even know if it is going to be fixed that night! We may have to spend the night in the airport. They have sent to Cincinnati for some mechanics! So, people are scrambling on cell phones trying to make alternate arrangements and I phone my cat sitter to let her know she will need to feed the cats that night and in the morning. While I am on the phone to her they announce that they will now start boarding! Joe interrupts my call and has me tell my cat sitter that they delayed the flights due to mechanical problems and now we are boarding and he wants someone to know in case the plane crashes that it had mechanical problems in case they try to deny it!!!! People on the aisle opposite us tell him to shut up and don't say anything more, meanwhile my cat sitter on the other end is hearing this and I am about in tears. Joe doesn't understand why people are upset - he is just concerned that they will try to get away with something if the plane crashes!!!.

Anyway, we board the plane with people glaring at Joe as they pass our seats. In the third seat of our row a woman carrying a 1 1/2 year old girl sits down with the girl in her lap. (Yeah, yeah, you are all thinking what I thought - oh no, a baby right next door!). The pilot comes one and says if anyone wants to leave the flight and make other arrangements to do so now. Then he explained that on their inbound flight some of the readings on their dials were out of the safety range so they called for mechanical help. They found different manuals for that make of plane, though, that had less stringent requirements and these readings were within the acceptable range for those standards so they were going to go by those and continue the flight. Then, about half a minute later he comes back on and says that we have a ground hold for at least an hour from Atlanta, due to bad weather in the area. Planes are stacked up and they are not able to accommodate all the incoming traffic - so we have to wait.

We wait. The baby next door is active but playful and quite good. She frets but doesn't cry. Her adoptive mother is apologetic and keeps giving her bottles of milk. An hour and a half passes. The flight was originally supposed to be arriving at Atlanta by this time and we haven't even left the ground.

Finally, we are cleared for take off. Joe and I are not on happy terms with each other and he is sullen. I am not much better. He plays with the baby (kids like him). I take pictures of the sunset on the clouds. Beverage service starts and then just as they reach the seat before us, things get bumpy and the seat belt light comes on. The pilot tells the air stewards to put everything away and take their seats so they wheel the carts past us. Turbulence is only for about half an hour, then they resume service as we are coming into Atlanta. The plane lands alright, we deplane - and of course, the shuttle bus that is to take us to our car in the off site car lot pulls away just as we get there. Figures. We are neither of us very good company and by the time we do make it home, going on 11 pm - we are basically not speaking. He stays up playing computer games until 3 am but neither of us got much sleep.

This morning (almost done), we had to renew my military id and we both need to be there. We drive to the base (things are still very cold and distant between us) and are told it is an hour and a half wait. 3 1/2 hours later (!!!) with some complaints from both of us to the other, and me feeling frozen in the icy waiting room, it is our turn. They have processed 14 people in those 3 1/2 hours! 5 minutes later I have my new id and can leave. I'm afraid the picture shows me scowling. Of course, the errands Joe wants to do on the way home don't materialize (one place is closed and the other didn't have what he needed). We have since spent the day trying to unwind from the stress of yesterday and the frustration of today. I am finally able to discuss it with a little less irritation, but I guess I just need to vent.

Regardless, we did have a great holiday and it was wonderful to be back in Kingston and back 'home'. You can go home - it isn't the same but it is still pretty darn good. I did find out that our 'troubles' yesterday started earlier than I thought - when I unpacked I discovered I had forgot the pound of old cheddar cheese I had purchased at the Wilton Cheese factory back in dad's fridge. He's going to mail it to us.

Yeah, it WAS two of those days!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Had to take Buddy to the vet today. :( He wasn't keeping any food or water yesterday or today and he's spending the night hospitalized. I just called the vet's office and they say he's doing okay but I won't find out until tomorrow what the x-ray and blood test results are.

I hope your buddy feels better soon :(

is it a 24 hours emergency hospital ? Or just a regular vet ? I am just surprised because blood test and X-ray usually don't take more than 30 min if it's digital, and maybe an hour if it's regular X-ray on a film.... Is there a reason to why they won't know before tomorrow ? And do you know if he could have eaten anything that would have been stuck in his bowel ? Usually when they start vomitting for no apparent reason and not feeling good that could be a sign of an obstruction. Just make sure they look into that and don't wait too many days, the more you wait before the surgery, the worse it can be.

It's just a regular vet but I was told to leave him there overnight... I brought him in at lunchtime today. The results are in but the vets had gone home for the night when I phoned to check in on him. I spoke with the vet assistant who said he was purring and meowing and being his usual Buddy self so that helped but hopefully he's okay and doesn't have anything too serious. My other cat is kinda wondering where he is!

He kinda reminds me of Kathryn41's cats. :star:

I hope your Buddy is feeling better soon. I know how rough I felt when two of mine developed similar symptoms (at different times) - one had pancreatitis and the other had swollen intestines (cause never really determined) that actually responded to the barium used for the xrays. I changed the diet for both of them to a better quality food and they have never looked back since their recovery. I hope they identify what Buddy needs quickly and get him on his road to recovery so he can go back home to you.

Just read your last post - and yes, Buddy has a look of 'Bear' about him:-). the vet report sounds good!
