I'm so confused ladies.. I need a birth control prescription.. last one ran out, and I probably need my yearly "female" check up (the dreaded PAP).. hubby's saying I just book an appointment with OB/GYN.. is this true? i've never booked an appointment with a "specialist" directly before.. more of my CDN roots showing I guess

:)

Hmm, maybe only if your family doctor doesn't do that type of thing? I know of many women here that do that...but I think it's unnecessary unless you have specific issues that need to be addressed. I went to my family Dr. in Canada for everything. If she referred me to a specialist, then I went, otherwise she handled it. My Dr. here is my GP, I have my yearly "wellness woman" PAP with her. I don't need any pills, but I would assume she'd prescribe them if I needed them.

Well that's exactly what I was thinking.. I don't have a family Dr either.. :( so i'm on the hunt for that as well.. *sigh.. Hubby is sure I have to go see a GYN which I'm thinking is overkill.. i just need a birth control prescription and a pap..

down here the OB-GYN isn't really referred to as a specialist.... back when we had insurance we had to pay a 15 dollar copay for regular doctors and 30 dollars for specialists... I only had to pay 15 dollars to see my OB-GYN ......it seems to be more common for women to go to an OB-GYN...

back home my mom had one doctor that did everything... prenatal, regular check-ups etc... here it seems like you have to go to a different doctor for every little thing...

While I agree with you both - I still (L) that thread. Mostly because its like a really good fairy tale - its keeps bringing me back for more. For me its like I'm pretty sure that a donkey can't poop gold, but darn it if I owned a donkey I'd check its turds everyday just to make sure. :P

 Oh my dear.. that made me laugh out loud!! I totally agree. I'm totally hooked as well.. but I just seem to be making snarky comments now .. .need to curb that urge

My GP does my pap tests as well during my annual physical. However, for any more detailed gynecological workup - ultrasounds, mammograms, etc. the same clinic operates a "Women's Wellness Center" where I go. Even though it is owned and operated by the same group of doctors, I still have to make my own appointments there separately from the first. They are really good though, and the co-pay is indeed the same as for the regular GP.

Actually, my last physical was done by the Physician Assistant as there were no appointments available with any of the doctors in the facility for an annual physical for at least 4 months - and I had to wait 2 months for the one with the PA. She was good, though, and I have seen her several times now.

Ok, Karen, Joel and Anna just left on their way home with their new kitty family member. I am both happy and sad- happy that this darling little cat that I have come to love will have a good and loving home, and sad, because I will miss her. I have worried about her and cared for her and tried to find her a home for a number of months now and she and I have become very good friends. So, the other good thing is that I know where she is and can visit her and Karen and Joel will give me updates on how she is doing. Big Sigh - this must be akin to the feelings foster mothers have when they entrust their babies to someone else who is adopting them - you know you can't keep them, but you sure wish you could!

She is a very pretty little cat and seemed to be quite comfortable with Karen and Anna and still a little leery with Joel but I think that will pass when she gets to know him better. She was a bit leery with my Joe, as well. She looks a little like the cat in Marilyn's signature with this neat orange stripe going up the middle of one side of her face, although not quite so extreme.

Another Big Sigh - ok, going to find one of my own cats to hug!

If anyone is booking a hotel for Montreal - the Delta Centre-Ville has a good deal going on right now with their rooms.

Only $99 with their booking special directly at their website. Regular rate is around $170/night.

I just booked mine online for August 28. Seems to be about a 1km walk to the consulate according to mapquest. Only a couple of blocks to the metro station.
