It's weird that I feel the need to tell you what I'm doing in my life, but here's what's happening. I will be driving back to Canada on Friday. We've just purchased a new car so my Mom has bought our old one. (Quite a good deal given the exchange rate and the cost of the same car in Canada.) My parents were supposed to be coming down to pick it up but their plans have changed and now we're delivering it instead. I don't mind. Once you get past Savannah it's a peaceful -- and scenic -- drive. It'll be a short stay, though, because hubby has to get back to work. Even though he has weeks of comp time available which he has to use or lose (so I guess it will be lose instead of use this year.) Anyway, we'll be flying back out of Buffalo on Tuesday so I'm looking forward to the experience of travelling with a greencard this time.

Congratulations on the upcoming nuptials Mary and J&K!

Awe Krikit.. enjoy the hubby time!!! I know it's just a short stay, but at least you got him all to yourself as a captive audience in the car..

Have a super time at home!!

I think I'm going to take a break from VJ for a while. All the negativity is bringing me down. It's even crept into the Canada Forum. :(

Ahhhh! don't go krikit!

I hear ya Krikit...I've taken a break too. I would hate, REALLY hate, to see all the negative ####### from the other forums leach its way here. This forum is like a haven.

VJ can be grim at times, but for the most part us canucks try to remain positive!! Just ignore the negative people as much as possible!! Don't feed them anything to get them started,lol

Aye, us Canucks are some of the most polite ones on here. If not for the Canada forum I'd have my account disabled.

Hey babeee!!! I've missed you too. And I agree with the symbolic violence in the forum: it's getting out of hand. Upsets me as a VJ member, as a PROUD Mexican citizen, and as human being.

p.s. and we Mexicans are also extremely polite and nice... nevermind what some people "think" ;)

I just talked to my mom and asked if they have gotten their passport process started and she said no because she did calculations and figured out tat it was going to cost about 200 bucks a person :o

I told her that I think she miscalculated....

it is about $87 for the passport and maybe 10 to 15 dollars for the pictures.... that is around $100 ...

I am not sure what other costs she is talking about , I tired asking and she just said that is what she figured out :unsure:

she said she picked up the forms at a lawyers office...

Is she talking about the fees for a guarenteur (sp?)? perhaps the lawyer charges a fee to vouch for her identity?? Which is strange, i've had a pharmacist and a Pastor vouch for mine before and never charged for it.. Perhaps?

I don't think the guarantor can charge...

Duties of a guarantor

Your guarantor must perform the following tasks free of charge:

1. Complete and sign the "Declaration of Guarantor" section free of charge.

2. Write, "I certify this to be a true likeness of (either your name or your child's name)" on the back of one of the passport photos and sign.

3. If applicable, sign and date a copy of the documents to support your identity.

http://www.ppt.gc.ca/can/guarantor.aspx?lang=e

and they have changed the rules of the guarantor but only for Canadians still living in Canada...

Under the new policy effective today, an eligible guarantor must:

* Be a Canadian citizen 18 years of age or older;

* Hold a five-year Canadian passport that is valid or has been expired for no more than one year;

* Have been 16 years of age or older when they applied for their own passport; and

* Have known the applicant personally for at least two years.

i don't know if she is going through the lawyer or if she just picked up the forms there...

I think that is what she added on without realizing that it isn't really necessary... it is an extra $70...

i just sent her an email detailing all this hopefully she gets it.... my mom is kind of stubborn :P

they need their passports if they want to fly down after the baby is born in April.. so I want then to get it in as soon as possible so they can get them in time... :unsure:

I even just found out that they can drop them off a Canadian Service Center about 20 minutes away instead of mailing it in(which could take 6 weeks or longer to get the passport) or driving over an hour to a Passport Canada Centre...

yup, you just need to say "eh" after every sentence and pledge your allegiance to Tim Hortons and then you are in....

And if you bring beer and a hockey game.. I know some :whistle: who will love you forever around the Canada Forum :)

I've been on a guacamole kick - been making it fresh every week! I think the in-laws are starting to get sick of it, but it's great comfort food when I'm stuck at home with the cats. And I've convinced myself that getting a weekly dose of avocados is good for my health! :lol:
