Thursday works for me - is that 8 pm EST?

Oh gosh. That's right. Timezones. Well, I'm on EST (actually, EDT since it's summer). hmmm. Problem #2.... Tonight is an exception (forgot it was Thursday) and I won't be online.:lol:

Next best thing.... we can always check who's online when we log on and see if anyone wants to chat? OR.... Maybe we can set up a chat schedule. Let me put some more thought into that. Karen, would you like to open a thread since it's your idea?

Sorry to go OT in this OT thread :hehe: but seeing the earlier post on mold wanted me to add my two cents. For those who have been following, my wife is pregnant and we got emergency AP a few weeks back so she could go to her brother's funeral. She'd been feeling sick/ not eating/drinking and we dismissed it as morning sickness coupled with being in a basement apartment with poor circulation. She hadn't been gaining any weight either.

Anyway, she stayed with her parents for a week and was able to eat and drink and put on six pounds. Within a few hours of her being back at home, she felt sick again and lost three pounds this past week. We're convinced it's mold. We told our landlord about this a few weeks ago and he said to keep the windows shut and a dehumidifier/fans on constantly. That's hard to do, considering my wife is in there all day. <_< Our lease expires at the end of October but we don't want to wait that long for her to be stuck in there. The plan is for her to go to Canada this weekend and stay until we find a place and can move, hopefully in a week or two. This will be good for my wife's health and will help her mom, because she's had it rough since her brother's passing.

Any thoughts, considering my landlord doesn't claim anything is amiss in the apartment?

Oh dear. It sure does sound like it's your apartment that's causing the problems. It's a good idea for your wife to be out of there. I don't understand your landlord's logic in keeping the windows shut, though. It's far better to have fresh air than not. In the meantime.... perhaps a portable ion unit would help to clean the air? Definitely keep the dehumidifier going at all times. You may want to check with the ministry of housing (or whatever it may be called in the US) with regard to your options. All the best.

Have it tested.. then with that proof I'm sure you can get out of your lease for health reasons.. or a note from a Dr.

We looked at an apartment that had been a smoking apt. I am asthmatic. they had made some renovations and said that getting out of a lease for health reasons is a perfectly acceptable reason to get out early. The landlord seemed to imply that if i ran into any problems health wise that they would let us out of the lease. Is there anything in the wording of your lease implying that? I'd also check with your local rental board, see what your rights are.. mold is NOT to be messed with!

Absolutely - and I too am confused about the closed windows, fans on and dehumidifier suggestion. None of these things will get rid of the mold, none of them will fix the problem and having the windows closed is a terrible idea!

I also didn't realize you were actually living in the basement.

Would an ionic air filter help with mold? I know it won't get rid of it but will it make it better for his wife while they're still living there?

We have a filter. We can't really run the de humidifer because there's basically two rooms. Well, the kitchen opens up to the living room, so it's a lot of ground to cover and then there's the bedroom. We also have a private entrance, but if it gets too hot out we need to leave that shut. That helps keep the place dry too. I'll have to double check the lease about getting out of it early. Another thought is to see if our landlord has any other apartments and then maybe we can get out that way.

hehehehe, it's ok to be here - especially when you are offering help!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
