*Sigh..

I'm kinda frustrated with this building credit deal. Trying to find a way around getting a secured credit card. My CDN credit cards of course I can use, but they ding me an extra 2-3 % every time I use them in the US just for the "convenience" of using them in the US..

So been trying to convert my CDN Sears Card to a US one. I've asked if it can be done outright and the answer is no .. I've asked for a letter from Sears Canada to say she's a great customer in good standing, but Sears US doesn't actually have a paper application form! (ie an address to send the letter to). I just got off the phone with the Customer Service line and they said there's no way to submit the letter of experience with my application (ie. i have to take my chances with the credit ap). Macy's already denied me because I don't have any credit history at all..

GAH!!!!!

This stuff drives me crazy.. I have an overabundance of credit in Canada.. JUST GIVE ME A FLIPPING CREDIT CARD ALREADY!

I wasn't able to get any of my credit transferred to the US either - including my Sears card. My credit here now is good (keep getting those applications for new credit cards) but it is because my husband added me to his accounts when I arrived, and we have joint credit cards on our accounts, plus we took out a car loan together. I wish they would be willing to accept the credit history from Canada but they just don't seem interested in doing so. Good luck.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

weird.. I got a Macy's credit card last year... I gave them my SIN card, Citizenship card and Canadian credit card to make an application in a store where I was buying some clothes..

did you apply on paper or in a store?

cuz I don't see why I should be allowed to have a macy's card in Canada while you aren't..

I even get my bills sent to my Canada address..

I did apply online. perhaps that's the problem. I did give them my CDN credit card online though

and I think the first day, you get 20%.. =)

WOW 20%! I am going to apply for them everyday, macys, sears, nordstoms, you name it. I will have nothing better to do but to shop the first few couple of months anyways...things are lookin up.

My sister moved to ohio for a few years and she had a hard time getting credit cards. She told me that it would be a good idea to put all of the house bills under your name. (ie. phone, cable, internet etc) I know its not so fun starting from new...but i hope this helps.

I'm still living in Canada and got a Target Visa quite some time ago as I didn't like to carry cash all the time while visiting my husband. I used my canadian sin for it, driver's licence and cdn credit card and got the temporary card within 5 minutes. I'm hoping that when I finally get a social security number I can go into a target, have them change my sin to my new ss and keep the credit rolling. Good luck!

Thats a good idea. Have you tried calling the phone number on the back of the card and asking them? If you do please let us know it would help out alot.

I'm pretty sure you can do that.. if you can change mailing info, why not..

I dont know...mailing addresses typically change...SSN dont i guess. Who knows. It seems logical to us...but take off your immigration goggles...and it doesnt seem so logical.

well, I thought it probably should be okay because the woman looked at me funny when she realized that I didn't have an ssn number.. and recently when i had to call them and they said, for security reasons, what's your ssn, I was like, umm, i never registered with one, I do have two other numbers that they probably took at registration.. and she accepted that instead..

I'm sure they'd rather us just have good ol' ssn numbers.

I'll ask during my next ###### fest with macy's when they call to yell saying they haven't received a payment and I yell back "why aren't you mailing me my statements! stop changing and touching my mailing address! leave it the way it is!"

Never thought to call ahead and ask that LOL Just got off the phone with them and once I get my SS and change my address to the US address I just give them my SS number and the credit I've been building with them thus far will follow me. Gonna start a new thread so people can find this :)
