Hey guys,

I had my K1 interview today in London and apart from a looong wait and a bit of a grilling from the consular officer it wasn't too painful and i was approved! woohoo!

Just a couple of questions though:

The officer did not look at, take, or make me sign my DS-230 part 2, and as I was dealing with so many other forms, birth certificate, I-134 etc I totally forgot and didn't realise until I got home. I'm just worried that this could somehow slow down the process if they realise that they don't have a copy of it on file or something. Has this happened to anyone else? Do you think this will be an issue that I should raise with the Embassy?

Also, when I was having my first mini-interview the guy asked me if i had ever had a US visa before and I told him I had had a student visa and he replied, oh a J1 visa and I told him that it was an F1 but I think I saw him write down J1!!?? I didn't want to say anything but it's really bothering me now!

Do you think either of these things are really an issue or am I just being stupidly paranoid and should be celebrating my approval!

I can't believe my visa was approved and I actually get to go and live with my faincee!

Congratulations!! I have to think that every form is crucial to your visa and process. I would call the embassy and tell them what happened. Maybe they'll just ask you to deliver it to them in the morning. Either way, it won't change your outcome of getting this visa, unless they realize it before they send it to you. Can't hurt to go back and give it to them right? As for the classification of your previous visa to the states, I am not exactly sure what the difference is, but I've known students that were here for the same job and each had a different type. Don't see how it will harm you. Just my opinion. :D

First. Congrats on your visa approval.

Secondly, I was asked to sign to DS 230 part 2 at the first window...before I went to pay the courier fee. Since the whole day tends to be a "jumble" (due to stress and nerves)...is it possible you signed it before sitting down for your "interview"? Just tossing out a possibility.

If you didn't sign ANY papers.....it may still be "noticed" by embassy staff to be corrected.

Details like missing signatures would bother me as well, so I might send a certified/trackable letter to the embassy, complete with my LND#, date of interview and other details of what I was concerned about. I would state what day I was leaving the country (if that is known) and request that any action necessary on my part be addressed before such date.

Hopefully your visa arrives in a few days and you'll be in the arms of your loved one soon.

Thanks for the replies!

Just one question, is the DS-230 part 2 needed at all after the interview? For example at the point of entry? Otherwise I'm concerned that calling the Embassy will just complicate matters when my visa has already been approved.

I may just wait 3-5 days and if I don't hear anything from the embassy and my visa arrives then I'll just forget it. Hah!

Firstly congratulations on the approval :dance: and good luck.

I don't know if the form is needed again, however, I had my interview in London yesterday as well. I was asked to sign the form at the second window after swearing the oath. At the end of the interview, the CO explained about the MBE and said it contains all the immigration forms. He then said the immigration officer at POE would go through all of the forms before admitting me.

If it was me, for the sake of a few more days wait, I would call the extortion line to double check firstly whether you signed it of not and secondly if you didn't, the quickest way of resolving it.

Good luck, I'm sure it won't be a problem.

Thanks again for the replies!

I called the Embassy today and the guy gave me a special email address and code to send an email enquiry. I received an automated response saying that my email had been received and that a response was usually given in 3-4 days. Grrr.

So I guess its just a case of either waiting until my visa arrives or waiting for a response. I'm going to be so annoyed though if I have to go back to the Embassy or if my visa is slowed down by a mistake that they have made. I wish the guy could have just told me on the phone, but we all know what that information line is like.

Anyway I'm going to try and put it out of my mind and just wait for a reply.

Thanks again for all the advice and I'll keep everyone posted on what happens

From what I understand, the 3-4 day reply thing is the outside timescale. I'm pretty sure you will hear back before then. Until then, keep thinking about the approval, and I wish you the very best of luck in getting this sorted out quickly.

When are you hoping to fly?

Posted
I was hoping to fly in the first week of September. I just hope everything is sorted by then!

its so frustrating when you think you have everything done and then an error made by the Embassy could slow things down.

First week of September is still a little while off. I'm hopeful you can get it all sorted well before then. Good luck. :)

First of all CONGRATS!

Second: Your timeline and your posts mentioned you were interviewed for a K-1 visa, then I think you don't need the DS-230 for that. For K-visas (non-immigrant visas), they will need the DS-156, 157. DS-230 forms are for those on CR/IR (Immigrant visa) categories. But you can call them and verify it to lessen the confusion.

hey guys,

I just received a reply to my email to the Embassy which stated simply:

The DS-230-1 is not required for K1 visa applications.

I stated in the email 3 TIMES that it was the DS-230 (part 2) and not Part 1 that had not been submitted. Is the term DS-230-1 sometime used to cover parts 1 and 2?

I am going to send an email reply just restating that it was part 2 and not part 1 that was not submitted.

But it seems like everything is ok I guess.

Sounds like good news. Well Done, and I'm pleased they cam back so quickly. Good luck with everything else.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but the K1 is classed as non-immigrant? And I think the DS230 is for immigrant visas only??
