SSN before filing for Marriage License with K1 Visa

In Texas just needed my driver's license and my spouse Indonesian passport to get the marriage license.  Obviously every state is different, just search your state's marriage license requirements.

SSN should be obtained first, before marriage to save a host of problems that can crop up. But you could also literally apply for the license before or on the same day. SSN is not required for the foreign fiance to get marriage license.

 

If I recall correctly we went to the SSA, court clerk for license, and the bank all on the same day.

Also good to note, is just because you get a marriage license, doesn't mean you can marry immediately in all states.  In TX, we had to wait 72 hours.  Not a big deal, but something to be aware of as you plan everything.
