Hi All,

I recently married my fiancée (US Citizen), and have set about adjusting my status (AOS) from K1 so that I can obtain a Green Card. I understand that part of the AOS (I-485) application requires me to undertake or provide proof of medical examination.

I undertook a medical examination back in mid November 2023 in London as part of my K1 application. As such, I was led to believe that I would not have to undergo a secondary examination whilst AOS in the US.

I have a copy of my vaccination record was signed and stamped by the US approved physician in London. My question is, do I still need to complete the I-693 form as part of the (I-485), or can I just include a photocopy of the medical examination along with history of my vaccinations?

In general, the K1 medical exam should suffice for the AOS.  The issues tend to be related to vaccinations not being complete, etc. which could lead to an RFE at some point.

Submit the 3025 with your package, and you should be fine.

Good Luck!

Thanks for advising. Unfortunately, I was never provided with a 3025 by the physician in London. This may have been sent to the US embassy in London as part of my application. I do however have proof from the physician of the vaccinations I took on the day, coupled with all vaccinations I had previously taken (which completes everything that is necessary). Hopefully this information suffices.

You mentioned you have the history of you vaccinations, I assumed it was on the DS-3025 form.  Regardless, if your K1 medical exam and all vaccinations are complete, you should be fine at the AOS stage.

Good Luck!

My husband who is adjusting from k-3 had had a medical with visa medicals in London as well that had said he was compliant as far as vaccinations went- however the tdp vaccine he received as routine vaccinations did not cover the same vaccinations as in the US (the p in the one he received was polio not pertussis) and then he was never vaccinated for hepatitis b in England either growing up so those are a couple things to check on your vaccination records to make sure you actually are in fact completely compliant. If you are just filing, you can just leave it and they will send an RFE if they decide they need it (which they did for us).

that's strange, you could try contacting them for a copy. Never known any on in London not to be handed a copy of vaccination report at end

Sorry, just to clarify, I was handed a copy of my vaccination report at the end of the assessment. However, the report didn't enable me to complete the Form I-693, so I wasn't sure where to go from there. I included a copy of the medical report in my AOS bundle, so guess I will soon find out whether I receive a referral for further information.

you don't need to include form I-693 if your AOS is within a year of your foreign medical
Just attach the copy of vaccination record. I also attached the instructions that state I'm exempt from I-693 due to foreign medical

Hi, do you mind how much it costs to respond to the RFE? Did you have to have another full medical exam? I had my medical exam in Sydney and was up to date with all vaccines, gave the sealed envelope to POE and submitted copy of ds3025 with my AOS,  now i have a RFE for having a civil surgeon complete the i693. It doesnt say why or what is missing from medical so i really dont understand why i need to pay god knows what more . My medical exam in Sydney was already like $800 or more.

The office we went to the medical fee was $475- it was a two part exam and the fee was due at the first exam. They did blood work to check immunities as well as some other blood tests (even though we had his immunization records from England) at the first exam, and then at the second exam they did a physical and gave him his hepatitis b (wasn't immune and wasn't given in England) and dtap vaccines (presumably for the missing pertussis immunities)- those were $90 extra for the two of them. I did forget to add that prior to the exam he was required to get a COVID-19 booster and flu shot (when I called to inquire about the price I asked if he needed to have those and they said yes) which did cost us more out of pocket as well (just went to Walmart) don't remember for sure how much that was. I wasn't 100% sure if he needed the full medical we just did it to avoid any possible problems later or further delay on AOS.
