How do I fix this?

So, I filed the wifes I-485 and I-765 in March. I filled out the extra form so that they could charge my credit card for the fee.

Yesterday, I got a new credit card from my bank because the old one was expiring. Without thinking I activated it, thereby "shutting off" the old credit card. But USCIS still hadn't charged me, so now the credit card information they have is no longer good. I've searched all over the USCIS website for an answer on how to update a credit card but have found nothing. Anyone know what to do with this situation? Will our entire package just get thrown out?

Most likely your packet will be returned and you will have to refile with new card information.

If it makes its way back to you, use a money order next time. This could have all been avoided by money order.

Usually, when credit cards that are renewed due to the current one expiring, unlike in the case of a stolen card where the number is radically new, you will keep the same number (only the expiration date and security/CCV code will be different).

 

Many credit card companies would honor ongoing subscription payments (cable, Netflix etc...) and some may even honor ad hoc charges made under the previous expired card.

 

Therefore, you might be lucky.

Thought I'd update you guys.  After I contacted USCIS every way possible, and getting no where, I called my bank.  Pleaded with them to allow any charges from Homeland Security to go through.   They told me, "they would note it, but most likely would get declined as the credit card information was outdated".   Though some kind of beaurocratic miracle, the charge went through yesterday.  So, not only is our package there, but we paid the old fee structure.

Update 2:  I-765 was rejected because we didn't include the blank forms about using an interpreter.

At least the most important part was accepted.  Under the new fee structure it's cheaper/easier to refile the I-765 online.
