Apply for N-400 AND Renew 10yr Green Card?

I know it dosen't make sense to do both. As the case is my wifes eligibility for applying for N-400 and the window for renewing her 10year green card fall in the same month. She wants to do both solely for the reason because she does NOT want to be without a Valid Green Card. Has anyone done this? Any advice would be helpful. Thank you.

Once somebody applies for N-400 they get 24 months extension letter:

I-90 is an additional expense, in my opinion, unnecessary. Though she can apply, it's a hit or miss whether she'd ever see new green card before she becomes a citizen.

 

P.S. I hope she doesn't have a 2 year conditional green card? Because she must file I-751 in this case.

I had the same thought as I was in this situation as well (10-year green card expiring in May). The NOA1 you receive in the mail after applying for citizenship extends your green card validity by 2 years (says so on the document). Also, citizenship applications are processed quickly these days. I applied February 1st and just got my interview scheduled for May 14th. In conclusion there's no point in applying for green card renewal and pay the extra fee. Your wife will likely be a citizen before the card would even arrive.

You speak of a "window" in regards to renewing her greencard and also mention "eligibility to apply for the N-400" (if so, she can't possibly have a 10-year greencard at this point). You make it sound like she needs to file for ROC, not a renewal. Please confirm as that would change people's answers DRASTICALLY. If it is indeed an i-751 and not an i-90, then she is not eligible to file her N-400 until around this time NEXT year. So that would explain why she can't start the filing of the N-400.

My answer included I-751, thank you very much for rechecking with OP.

 

The more I read @Anthony42 question, the more I think it's about removal of conditions. Antony, she cannot skip I-751, if she has a conditional card!

Or does she have 10 year GC and wasn't eligible for N-400 due to break of continuous residency / physical presence?
