Visa received. Visa expires too early. Need to travel later

My wife  I petitioned her parents to come to the US and they received a visa. They are required to travel to the US in May 2024 as visa expires. If they apply for a new visa, will they need to go through the interview process again? Can it affect their eligibility to come to the US? Travel for May is too early for them and they would like to travel at a later date.

What is the process?

I don't think it's a mistake. The medical showed an issue at first, but was cleared after. They don't want to start the whole process again. They just want to travel at a later day. Maybe in September instead of May.

They would prefer to travel during September instead of May.

That could be a mistake.  If the visas expire, the consulate has the sole discretion to re-issue the visas if they could not travel due to circumstances beyond their control.  Otherwise, the entire process would have to be repeated.  An alternative is for them to travel to the US, "activate" their legal status, then immediately return to home country to tie up loose ends.

If the visas expire, they will, likely, not have a choice.

They should travel to the US before the visas expire, then immediately (like immediately) return to home country to tie up loose ends.

Looks like they CAN travel before the visas expire in May.  They would rather not.  In that case, they will have to start from scratch if the visas expire.

Yes. Would it be an option for them to travel to the US airport and than have a flight the same day back to their home country?

Depending on the age/health of your parents, a few hours/days stay might be best.  Mini-vacation...

Which country are they coming from? Which state are they going to?

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

Hey, sorry if I’m asking this question again. But, what’s the visa they receive to come to the U.S.?
I understood that you and your wife petitioned them to come live here, I think they will receive a temporary visa to come here and then receive a G.C - in this situation I don’t think that would be able to travel back.

But, if it’s a tourist visa usually they could come here for 2 days leave back, and return to U.S in September without problem.

I had the same issue few years ago, I sent an email to the embassy explaining that I was graduating and by the college rules, I needed to participate of the celebration process. So, the embassy didn’t help me anyway

That is not correct.  They would come via immigrant visas (IR-5).  Upon entry into the US, they automatically become Green Card holders IMMEDIATELY.  They can then immediately exit the country and re=enter as Green Card holders.

I concur, the best idea is to arrive in May with visas and activate them. Get passport stamp stay two days and return home. After you pay their GC hopefully by the time they return in September they will have their card and SSN

Phase I - IV - Completed the Immigration Journey
