Sending RFE via mail from abroad

Hello everyone,

This is a new question from a previous thread where I received an RFE for uploading a foreign language document during the petition process without an English translation.

Per the instructions on the RFE, I will mail the requested translaiton to the U.S. from Germany. I will get the tracking as well to ensure delivery, but how long should I wait until contacting someone at the USCIS about receiving the RFE?

I have the option to upload evidence but it wasn't clearly stated in the RFE that I can provide the proof electronically online via my USCIS account.

My questions is, has anyone just submitted the RFE response both ways (via mail & online)? Thanks!

there's no fix how long. i personally will do just one way and it always via mail.

if there's RFE IMO just tracking info from UPS,USPS, Fedex is not enough, i always a bit worried. so what i did is : pay extra for USPS for " certified mail + e-return receipt".

but i saw many people did both ( mail+upload it on portal). to each their own. and especially if u are overseas. why not?

I will assure the OP, that courier tracking is enough.  Certified mail can delay delivery.

better be safe than sorry. 1-2 days delay not a big deal ( i never sent anything last minute)

there are few stories people sent RFE, and their case got denied because USCIS "never" received the response

I'm aware some people prefer belt AND suspenders.  My advice is not based on that.  The choice is with the OP.

I agree! We only sent things certified from overseas… You are generally dealing with multiple agencies (post office or third party FedEx partner etc)  and in my experience just courier tracking was usually slower…

But mileage may vary depending on the country you’re sending the package from…

Yes, who actually delivers "certified mail" to USCIS is always the USPS and can only be them.  But, who carries it to USPS can vary a lot.  Requiring a signature when using a courier, is an option but does delay by a day or so.  "Registered Mail" is the real slowdown.

Thank you for your help for me... as I tend to get nervous when the RFE instructions on the USCIS site states this can result in Denial!!! So, I freak out a bit and overthink everything.. which I tend to delay doing anything.

But I am sending sending the letter with tracking but not certified or registered. Just courier tracking and will follow up in a couple weeks in case there isn't an update on my case online.

Thanks everyone! :)
