N-400 submitted and I'm going to be changing address - twice

Hi all,

As we all know, plans don't always go to plan. Since applying for citizenship (and also, I'm still waiting for conditions to be removed) my husband and I have sold our house and are moving to another state.

We are under contract for a new home build and have the new home address, but likely won't close until the build is complete later in the year.

In the meantime, we will be staying with relatives for a few months. They live a few hours away and I've confirmed their address is serviced by another UCSIS location.

I know that I have to be upfront and keep USCIS up to date with my address, but in this scenario would I be OK to put the address of my new home that's under construction, and a PO Box for the mailing address? Or will I need to put my in-laws address and change address again once we've moved in? I'm guessing the latter.

Thanks :)

You insinuate that you already filed the N400, so it seems you may run afoul of this requirement.  Is the new home in the same USCIS district as the home you are selling?

In addition, applicants are required to show they have resided for at least three months immediately preceding the filing of Form N-400 in the USCIS district or state where the applicant claims to have residency

Hi Dashinka, I didn't say that. I said "since applying for citizenship". At the time of applying for citizenship we hadn't sold our house, hadn't planned to move, and had been at our current address for over 2 years. The move is upcoming.

Thanks

Apologies, you should be fine relative to the 3 month rule for USCIS districts.  As to what address you should put on the AR-11, I would use your in-laws.

Good Luck!

Good Luck!

After posting I was coming to the same conclusion as the house isn't ours until closing. If my approval gets delayed then I'll just wait more patiently :)

AR-11 is always about your physical location (where you sleep at night) more than what you own / where you have lease.
