For the second time in modern memory (and in this thread), we have contiguously posted Wednesday and Sunday jokes.  Because it is Easter Sunday, here is our relevant Official Weekly VAWA-Thread Joke:

===========================================

THE BAPTISM

An old drunk stumbled across a baptismal service on Sunday afternoon down by the river.

He walked into the water and stood next to the preacher.  The minister noticed the old drunk and said, "Are you ready to find Jesus?"

The drunk looked back and said, "Yes, preacher, I sure am."

The minister dunked the drunk under the water and pulled him right back up.  "Have you found Jesus?" the preacher asked.

"No, I haven't," said the drunk.

"The preacher then dunked the drunk under for quite a bit longer, brought him up, and said, "Now, brother -- have you found Jesus?"

"No, I have not, Reverend."

The preacher, in disgust, held the drunk under for 30 seconds, pulled him out of the water, and said in a harsh tone, "My God, man -- have you found Jesus yet?"

The old drunk wiped his eyes, coughed, and said to the preacher, "Are you sure this is where he fell in?"

That’s a good question. Would you please share what documents did you file your citizenship with? And maybe your timeline too? Thank you!

Hello @Sandra G.

Thank you for sharing this! I’m scheduled to travel internationally from May to August, pending citizenship. I have no criminal record.

As for my status, it’s a bit of a grey area: I may have technically overstayed, but it was never clearly defined. Here's a quick timeline: my work visa expired in November 2015, I got married in December 2015, but due to abuse, I never filed for adjustment. I applied for VAWA in 2018, received my green card in 2022, and began my citizenship process in 2025. No biometrics were required—my application went straight to “being reviewed.”

Given all this, how can we best prepare for international travel while our citizenship is pending? What should we know, and what steps can we take to protect ourselves?

One of my clients, who is a green card holder, was sent to secondary inspection upon re-entry. They questioned him extensively about his VAWA case, particularly focusing on the dates of abuse he mentioned in his affidavit. Be prepared to answer detailed questions if you're in a similar situation. Carry a copy of your I-360 approval notice. If the officer asks about the abuse, you can say, " I’m glad to answer your questions, but some of this involves protected information related to my VAWA case. I’d prefer to speak with a supervisor regarding this matter," or just answer the questions; it's up to you.

They may ask about your VAWA case, but usually they do not ask for details of the abuse . If needed, you can respond with, 'I’m happy to answer general questions, but I’d prefer not to discuss personal details from my VAWA case unless absolutely necessary.'

Thank you Sandra! As a VAWA green card holder, would you recommend me to file for citizenship with or without an attorney?

It is Wednesday and time for our Semiofficial Semiweekly VAWA-Thread Joke:

===========================================
THE BLONDE ON THE TRAIN

The blonde wife came home from her first day commuting into the city.  Her husband noticed that she was looking a little peaked.  He asked, "Honey, are you feeling all right?"

"Not really," she replied.  "I'm nauseated from sitting backward on the train."

"Poor dear," he said.  "Why didn't you ask the person sitting across from you to switch seats for a while?"

"I couldn't," she replied.  "There was no one there."

I have heard from an attorney that they had updated citizenship forms and have added more tricky questions. Earlier it was not like this but the application form have a new version.

Anyone please correct me if I am wrong.

Check the official USCIS website to learn whether this is true, and, if so, what the forms now look like.

It's entirely up to you. Filing with or without an attorney won't change the outcome, but if you file without one, there's a chance you might make some mistakes when completing the form.
