Our Official Weekly VAWA-Thread Joke was very popular!  Accordingly, here's our Semiofficial Semiweekly VAWA-Thread Joke:

===========================================
MORE THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

The spider-infestation problem is mostly resolved.

Diarrhea Awareness Month starts Monday.  Runs till Friday.

A pessimist sees a dark tunnel.  An optimist sees light at the end of the tunnel.  A realist sees a freight train.  The train conductor sees three idiots standing on the track.

I ilke it when the Earth rotates.  It really makes my day.

My slightly drunk wife was yelling at the television, "Don't go in there!  Don't go in the church, you moron!"  She was watching our wedding video again.

Why is a set of false teeth called "dentures" when they should have been called "substitooths"?

My doctor told me I'm going deaf.  The news was hard for me to hear.

Human babies are very mysterious and I don't trust them.

I arrived early at the restaurant.  The manager said, "Do you mind waiting a bit?'  "No," I said.  "Good," he said.  "Take these drinks to Table 9."

NOTICE:  This is the back door.  The front door is around the back.

Please arrive at your appointment 15 minutes early so you can fill out the same forms you filled out online and then wait 45 more minutes for the doctor to actually see you.

No horses allowed in bathrooms!  Anyone found washing a horse in this bathroom will be charged cleaning costs.

Hi folks, last week, a client of mine, who is a green card holder, returned from an overseas trip. He was referred for secondary inspection, where the officer repeatedly asked about his VAWA case. He had to provide details about the case from the moment he first met his wife. Things are changing significantly when entering the country.

Hello @Sandra G.

Thank you for sharing this! I’m scheduled to travel internationally from May to August, pending citizenship. I have no criminal record.

As for my status, it’s a bit of a grey area: I may have technically overstayed, but it was never clearly defined. Here's a quick timeline: my work visa expired in November 2015, I got married in December 2015, but due to abuse, I never filed for adjustment. I applied for VAWA in 2018, received my green card in 2022, and began my citizenship process in 2025. No biometrics were required—my application went straight to “being reviewed.”

Given all this, how can we best prepare for international travel while our citizenship is pending? What should we know, and what steps can we take to protect ourselves?

My questions are

what I’m expecting next ?
and my I-485 will be approved?
Is it easy or hard to get the I-485 approved?

@Sandra G. please

It is already Sunday!  Time for our hilarious, effective Official Weekly VAWA-Thread Joke:

===========================================
A BLONDE AT THE CINEMA

I went to see a movie the other night.  I sat in an aisle seat as I usually do because it feels a little roomier.

Just as the feature was about to start, a blonde from the center of the row got up and started working her way out.

"Excuse me; sorry; oops; excuse me; pardon me; gotta hurry; oops; excuse me!"

By the time she got to me, I was trying to look around her and I was a little impatient, so I said, "Couldn't you have done this a little earlier?"

"No!" she said in a loud whisper.  "The 'Turn Off Your Phone' message just flashed up on the screen, and mine is in the car."

Hello everyone, please I need y’all’s help, I filled for vawa 2017 and it was denied because the divorce that was given to me by my ex husband in my country was not real, I had to do another divorce here, I had also divorced my spouse here before filing for vawa in 2017

now I got married in 2022 now facing abuse, can I still file for vawa the second time with other spouse, or it’s a red flag.. please I need y’all help

You can file, but multiple VAWAs are very suspicious. I think your immigration history looks complex and messy.

Strictly speaking nothing legally prevents you from doing that, but it does look pretty suspicious.

First VAWA got denied because you've de facto committed bigamy. Now, I won't pretend to be an expert on matrimonial law but divorce from the first marriage didn't cure the second one unless you've basically remarried with the second spouse after getting the divorce from the first (since the second was void from the start, so it never really existed). So yeah, that first VAWA denial was justified.

Now you're married to a third spouse from whom you're trying to seek a second VAWA.

Like, I don't think it's insurmountable but do get a good lawyer and be ready to questioned pretty heavily about the validities of the second and third marriage because they might try to hit you with a 204(c) (marriage fraud).

For what it's worth, messy situations happen, legal mistakes happen (especially with countries that end up having multiple coexisting legal systems (e.g. civil, sharia, and tribal)), lightning might strike twice, but you will need to dot all the i's and cross all the t's, and likely convince USCIS that you were sure that you were divorced at time of the second marriage, and you didn't enter into the second and third just for papers.

Thank you I truly appreciate you taking out time to answer my questions, what do you advise should I apply through my spouse because we have been married for 3 years now, but with the abuse I’m worried he may not follow through with the process thank you

That would be a really bad idea IMHO

No. If this is a genuinely abusive relationship then there’s no way you should stay with him for anything.

Get yourself out, and safe.

Wednesday means time for our hilarious Semiofficial Semiweekly VAWA-Thread Joke:

===========================================
SIX GOOD ONES

Sergeant:  Smith!

Private:   Yes, sir!

Sergeant:  I didn't see you at camouflage practice today!

Private:   Thank you, sir!

     When I was a boy, my mom would send me to the store with a dollar.  I'd come back with 5 potatoes, 2 loaves of bread, 3 bottles of milk, a hunk of cheese, a box of tea, and 6 eggs.

     You can't do that now.  Too many security cameras.

A police officer came to my house and asked where I was between five and six.  He seemed irritated when I answered, "Kindergarten."

Where do bad rainbows go?

To prism.  It's a light sentence, but it gives them time to reflect.

Sorry, but your password must contain at least 8 characters, upper- and lower-case letters, a symbol or number, a hieroglyph, a haiku, a musical note, the feather of a hawk, and a drop of unicorn blood.

I've crunched the numbers in your retirement account.  It's time to figure out who will be wearing the mask and who will be driving the getaway car.
