if you do not get in 60 days then contact your congress person. I had same issue once and my congress person was able to get me the receipts.

Hello,

I am new here and hope I’ve come to the right forum. I got married two and a half years ago while on a visitor visa. We submitted the necessary applications, and I have since received my EAD, Social Security number, ID, and Advance Parole. We live together, and my spouse is the petitioner (she is older than I am). Everything was going well; we share the same culture, religion, and language. She advised me to sell my condo, car, and other possessions back home to start our life together here.

Suddenly, around Valentine's Day this year, her behavior changed drastically. She began to express hatred towards me, demanding I find a job after having previously told me not to work for almost a year. I had bought her a custom gold necklace for Valentine's Day, which she did not appreciate. Since then, she has called me derogatory names, sent me texts wishing I would die in my sleep, threatened to lock me out of the house, and even said she would harm me if I tried to enter.

Despite my efforts to make the relationship work, the situation escalated. Her siblings witnessed her verbally and physically abuse me, including threatening me with a knife. My priority was to calm her down and find a safe place to stay. Thankfully, her siblings offered me temporary shelter and advised against calling the police, assuring me she wouldn't act on her threats.

I am now experiencing trauma and PTSD, similar to what I witnessed in my parents' relationship. I have scheduled an appointment with a doctor for support. Our interview is approaching, but I don’t feel comfortable lying about our situation. Although our marriage was bona fide and I have ample evidence to prove it (bank statements, credit card records, insurance, utilities, photos, etc.), I am scared to be around her.

I am planning to hire an attorney this week and need to find a therapist who speaks my language. Do you think I have a case? Additionally, can I keep my EAD card since it has not expired? Without it, I won't be able to afford my own place due to the high cost of rent.

Thank you for any advice you can offer.

Welcome here! It’s been a minute since I’ve done this and hopefully I’m not rusty..but there are so many helpful people here who can chip in so you’re in the right place. That said, there are requirements that make you eligible for this petition and if you meet them, you’re good to go.

You may choose to use an attorney if you have the funds for it or you can absolutely do it yourself..lots of people here did and were successful. Good luck! 👍

Hi family! I have a concern:

My renewal combo-card was approved end of April-2024 and my card was mailed on May 12. However, I never received it and USCIS provided me tracking number which showed in transit for many days. I called USPS and even after multiple requests, it wasn't found and then I filed a missing item report. Now they say that "After investigating, it's determined that your item may have been damaged in transit and sent to the recovery center."

Can I go to this recovery center? I don't even know where this recovery center is. I am in NJ by the way.

I am very confused and should I now apply for a new combo card? I don't want to lose my employment. Anyone has any experience about this? Please advise.

Ask your congress to inquire on your behalf.Usually USCIS answers the congressperson within 72 hours.

@Sandra G. Hi Family! I received my LPR through VAWA, and I'm now looking to file for my children (15 and 13 years old), who are here with me in the US. I didn't include them in my initial VAWA application, and I don't know if I should file an I-130 and I-485 or something else. I also need to know what documents to submit with my application. I would appreciate your guidance on this.

A compelling reason must be provided as to why your children are not included in your petition, otherwise you are screwed. You can be considered to have lied or omitted about them and you can have a significant problem of misrepresentation. In your affidavit, did you mention your kids? Do you have an attorney who has handled your application?

How timely is Wednesday -- the opportunity for our Semiofficial Semiweekly VAWA-Thread Joke:

POLICE SOLVE CASE OF THE MISSING BACON (TRUE REPORT)

A Grand Rapids resident told police last week that someone had entered his home during the night and taken 5 pounds of bacon from the refrigerator.

Upon further investigation, police discovered that his wife had gotten up for a late-night snack, but was afraid to admit it.

The mail recovery center is in Atlanta, GA. The actual address is not publicly known and no, they won't let you come in person to browse through the piles of misplaced documents. If the card made it there it would likely make it back to USCIS eventually since it reads on the back "If found, drop into any US mailbox. USPS: Mail to 7 Product Way, Lees Summit, MO 64002".

You should probably just reach out to USCIS with what you got from USPS and ask that they reprint it, since well USPS doesn't know what happened to it exactly, it might've been sent to the recovery center, it might've equally well fallen behind something somewhere (and well, there were postal workers who went to prison for destroying stuff from USCIS).
