How long after receiving the GC based on vawa can someone submit the N400?

my friend just received his GC so I heard that we can submit N400 in less than 18 months. Is there a certain requirement or rule to submitting the N400 in 18 months from GC?

He’s a vawa beneficiary and was married to a USC, he just received his GC based on vawa self petition.

thank you

Three years after receiving GC.

@Sandra G. I went to my old address tonight and I got to know that I hot some letters two weeks ago from immigration but they sent it back USPS. Am in confused situation now, have cried my eye out, I dont know where to go from here. I haven't recieve any letter from this place for the past 3 years now, I dont know why they will send my interview letter there. I went to the field office they wont allow me in.

Call USCIS and ask to speak to a Tier two, and request an in-person appointment with the USCIS asap.You should contact your congressperson as well.

hello Family,

Its been almost 10 months since my vawa got approved and since then no update on my i-485,  I tried reaching out to  Congressperson  but of no help only response i got is some cases take time. Is this usual, and  what should I do, I am getting anxious hearing nothing about it.

It depends which field office you have your case, sometimes can take even 2 years to set up an interview.

You can submit the N400 if you are a resident permanent for at least  3 years; and your husband is a U.S Citizen or  5 years if your spouse or ex spouse is a  green card holder.

Thank you @Sandra G. after adjudicating the i601, will they make a decision on my i485 as well? Or they will return my i485 to the local office again where it was

Once they approve your waiver they will ship your file to your local office.

Good evening!

Which office sends the deficiency letter/medical exam RFE? Vermont or our local office?

My vawa got approved in the beginning of October 2023, and last week I went to my local office (had an info pass) - I was sure my file was already in my local office but when I got there the officer told me that my files are still in Vermont, and that Vermont is the one asking me for medical or then if they think I will need an interview they will send to my local office - She seems like she really wanted to help, she went in and out her office couple of times to check but she was positive about my cause still in Vermont and not my local office

Does this make sense? I always though they transfer and then my local office is the one deciding if I need an interview or not.

She also mentioned that Vermont was already done doing my biometric and going to the next step (which I don't know what it is)

What do you guys think? Does it take that long (5 months+) to Vermont transfer the  files??

Once VAWA is approved they will ship the file to your local office.

@Sandra G. Hello Sandra. I did receive my N400 interview notice based on VAWA. ON letter, it says any evidence of Selective Service Registration. I never signed up or registered for this because I was ineligible for registration. I came on F1 visa at age of 24 and my ex spouse filed for my marriage based GC when I was age 26 or 27. Yes i was out of status after our marriage. do you think it may cause any issue at interview?

@Sandra G. I requested for titer two but they wont allow mallthey asked me to write Vermont.  I already contacted my Congress person but she said she will have to wait for 3 months before she can make any enquiry about my case.

I believe there is a way to contact tier 2 person. Don't add your vawa case otherwise you will ask to write to Vermont. Select other options you may get titer 2 representative. this is what I used to do as well. I don't remember the process

Hoo boy, but we're in need of lightening the mood.  Accordingly, here's our Semiweekly Semiofficial VAWA-Thread Joke:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ALWAYS THINK AHEAD!
The customer of the photo studio threw down the proofs in disgust.  "I certainly don't like these photos of me at all," he declared.  "I look like an ape!"
The photographer gave him a withering glance.  "That may be, sir," he admitted.  "But you should have thought of that before you had them taken."
:P
06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.
06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).
07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?
09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).
09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).
10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."
12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.
12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.
12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.
01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.
01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.
04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").
05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.
05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).
06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."
07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.
08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).
08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
It all depends on the field office and the workload they have.  I think you are close. It took mine 13months before they schedule me for an interview.  You will get there soon.
Thank you, but mine is not even at local office yet.
Congratulations Priya for I360 approval.
It's takes times and rest depends on your field office and the work load they have. Mine got approved August 2023 and on March 2024 they approved I485.
did they ask you for medical?
Congratulation , Mine is over 10 months since i360 approval and they have not even asked for medical yet, not only that they have not yet sent it to local office. This is really making me anxious.
