My parents does not have marriage certificate as they had customary wedding 35 years ago and no marriage certificate was issued. How do I go about this? Thank you

Important Notice on Missing Documents: If a required document is unavailable per the country-specific guidelines, you do not need to scan the document into your CEAC. However, if you cannot obtain a required document for another reason, you must submit a detailed written explanation to NVC when you scan your other documents. During your visa interview, the consular officer will determine whether you must obtain the missing document before a visa can be issued. As a general rule, any document that is listed as “available” on the country-specific guidelines must be reviewed by a consular officer. Failure to obtain all required documents will delay your case.

Have you sorted this out? Because I have similar situation when submitting documents for parents. After so many confusion on what to do. I got a notary from a lawyer and had my parents get an affidavit of marriage from federal high court Lagos. When uploading documents, don’t click on available documents but rather click on the option that says document not available. Afterwards upload the affidavit and notary to the other documents section and leave a comment explaining why you can’t provide a marriage certificate. In my case , my parents had both traditional and church wedding but no court wedding and they have been married for 40 years. Let me know if you require further clarification on this. Good luck.

Additionally, I submitted all documents and got documents qualified in March of 2024, but still waiting for NVC to schedule an interview in Lagos for my parents. It’s been over 3 months no response from NVC. Let me know what stage you are currently with the process. Thank You.

It takes much longer than 3 months in Lagos I’m afraid, there’s a big backlog there. Unless that reduces, your parents aren’t likely to get their interviews until 2025.

Good luck.
