A friend's wife change of status has been stopped because he does not have a tax return for this year. He started working six months ago. Previous to this he was a a student.

His salary is above the poverty line. He does not know what to do as he does not has any family willing to help him.

a few questions:

1. will an emplyer later and pay stubs work instead of the tax return? He works with the government.

I know another option he has is to find a joint sponsor. As a joint sponsor what are the legal obligations of this person?

What happens if my friend's wife goes and get a loan and does not pay for it?Is the joint sponsor liable and has to pay this?

Any other useful advice is appreciated.

thanks

You can find out what the obligations of the joint sponsor are by reading the last pages of the I-864 Affidavit of Support.

I just saw some typos above:

1. will an employer letter and pay stubs work instead of the tax return? He works with the government.

I know another option he has is to find a joint sponsor. As a joint sponsor what are the legal obligations of this person?

What happens if my friend's wife goes and get a loan and does not pay for it?Is the joint sponsor liable and has to pay this?
