Vote the lesser of two evils in your opinion but vote! IMO there are more conservatives collectively in this nation because 'liberal' has become a dirty word, thanks to people like Ann Coulter, and is often synonymous with democrat (which I believe to be a poor assumption and generalization because many democrats are pretty conservative and vice versa). Let's suffice it to say that today's POLITITIAN is not your father's POLITITIAN...or at least there may have been enough time since our father's polititian's snafus that the younger generations have perspective to either forgive or just don't care about that far in the past.

IMO GWB was elected because of disenchantment with his predecessor's scandals and not his platforms or persona. America needed a face we could trust..and though lack lustre...we could somewhat trust his father. So....we could trust him right? Anyway....I hate discussing politics so I'll shut up now. :P

I never trusted Bush Sr. nor did I ever like him. Another case of the Dems putting forth another lame candidate and the lesser of 2 weavils winning. He's nothing more than a party hack and the only reason his son ever got to be President. No wonder a philandering sleazeball like Clinton beat him after 1 term. At least he hasn't f*cked up even a fraction compared to his son, but it's not saying much.

It's not your father's (depending on your age) Democratic Party either. Teddy Kennedy? Howard Dean? Harry Reid? They're not good enough or worthy enough to shine JFK, FDR, or Harry Truman's shoes. Until this is no longer the face of the Democratic Party...screw 'em!

I'm no fan of GWB and a lot of Republicans aren't fans of GWB either. He was a mistake that never should of happened. He alone has given all Republicans a bad reputation that isn't 100% deserved. The sooner he is in the rear view mirror...the better. I always thought the Repubs could have done better in 2000 and the only reason he got a 2nd term is because the best the Dems could do was John Kerry. It was the perfect storm. 'Nuff said.

The Dems had Jimmy Carter and now the Repubs have Bush. Perfect examples to not vote for either party. Unfortunately at the present time we only have 2 viable choices to choose from. Neither are perfect. To vote or not to vote...that is the question!

Interesting point you make. The Democrat party of the JFK era, and prior, seems nothing like your modern bandwagon based marriage rights for gay poodles party.

When it comes to the leaders of the current political parties an old saying comes to mind 'Same ###### different smell'. On one hand you have bridges falling down. Yet on the other you have someone saying "how can this happen in America". I'll tell you exactly how this happened. 40 years of neglect focusing on BS issues rather than this nation.

Marriage rights for gay poodles, stem cell research using aborted fetuses, watering stations for illegal aliens illegally entering through the desert...all hot topics for their core ultra-lib base on the left and right coasts...but issues that the vast majority of "middle" America could care less about when there are more important pressing problems that need real leadership and real guts to solve them.

The only party that concerns itself with marriage rights for gay poodles is the Republicans that are busy putting constitutional amendments on ballots all over the place opposing such. Stem cell research using aborted fetuses? What Democrat has advocated that when and where? Quotes please. All I am aware of is stem cell research on fertilized eggs that will otherwise be flushed down the toilet. Slight difference there, don't you think?

We can have debates on how the left and right (I am actually of the opinion that the left and right patterns of the 19th and 20th century are quite obsolete as they clearly don't actually fit the political reality of the 21st century anymore) changed over time. But let us try to stay with actual positions for awhile, yes?

You say that - but "Middle America" has historically been #######-retentive with regard to those types of concerns. What else is that whole abortion & right to die ####### about - why does that factor so prominently in media commentary about a particular candidates merits or lack thereof? Moreover, why is it that Stem Cell Research and Gay Marriage become big national controversies, only when the government decides to ban them?

Because they're divisive issues and the political strategists know how to effectively divide the votes into Left and Right columns. I think the American people have grown tired of it though...you can only fool them for so long.

Thing is - it seems genuinely important to some people - to vote for someone who has a strong stance on abortion; as opposed to say, the running of economy.

As well as the crew who will vote for a Democrat solely on the fact they hate GWB. People usually fall for the song and dance.

In my lifetime I do not think I have seen an American president elected who has the qualities needed. Qualities such as a thorough understanding of the needs of the middle class American, the poor American as well as the elitist. The president should also have extensive knowledge in finance, economics, international relations as well as how to interact with people from other nations / cultures.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

There is such a thing as a protest vote. Little bit ####### about face to vote on someone's moral standards - while largely ignoring what they will do for you.

Yes...of course...these examples are contrived exaggerations. And you have no arguement from me that the neo-cons also waste too much legislative time pursuing bogus non-issues of very limited importance to most Americans that could better be dealt with elsewhere. And in the meantime...Rome burns and the flames will consume everybody.

While I have always considered myself a non-affiliated independent voter, I generally have voted for conservative candadates throughout my life. Hence, the reason that the far Left wing of the Democratic Party irritate me far more than the stupidness of the neo-cons.

As I said many times...I didn't leave the Democratic Party...it (for the most part) left me stranded too many times in the middle of nowhere to count on them anymore. Their bus needs too many repairs to be roadworthy. The Republicans with Bush driving the bus has veered off the road and into the ditch. Somebody needs to pull it out of the ditch and put a responsible adult behind the wheel.
