Hi knowledgeable community:

For those of you who filed a JOINT I130/I485 in the recent past, did you file both on paper or did you file I130 electronically and I485 on paper?

Looks like things have changed since I did that for myself years ago (there was no electronic option available for I130 back then). It feels tempting to go down the electronic route, but given the infamous incompetence of USCIS, I am not sure if this is giving them fodder to fail to link the two to each other. Thoughts?

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Filed both on paper. Also included I-765 and I-131. You should include them too, as they're free if filed before April 1st!

I do not see appeal in filing I-130 electronically, when the rest of the forms can only be filed on paper. If it was possible to do everything electronically - that would be a different conversation. USCIS would have to link I-130 to I-485. If filed together that's much easier and all cases would have sequential numbers.

I filed I130 online because I don't want to print out all the pictures from our timeline 😂

Then 1 month later I sent my I485 package with I130 receipt of notice. And My I130 was approved this weeks after 2 months.
So I think they are 2 different applications and you can file either way, but online is easier because the system receives it immediately. It's my opinion.

I-130 is worthless without I-485.

Until they can be both filed electronically, my preference would be filing both together on paper. Of course people file I-130 electronically and get approved every day. There's pros and cons to each approach.
