Does not having an SSN slow down my travel/work visa approval?

Hi! I got married in July in NJ (moved from Canada) with the K1 Fiance Visa and applied for my PR, Travel Visa, and Work Permit all at once about a month after my marriage. I do not have an SSN yet, as my lawyer recommended I wait until I have my work authorization before applying. However, since then, I have had two K1 Visa friends (one from the UK and one from NZ), who both got married and applied AFTER me, receive their travel and work permits. I still have not.  I believe they both applied for their SSNs prior to their approvals. My question is...is it possible that not having a SSN before applying for these visas is slowing my approval down?

I don't think having / not having SSN is related to getting EAD / AP / GC faster or slower.

I recently went through I-751. My friend filed 2 weeks after me and got approved about 3-4 months earlier than me. We seemed to have identical cases. Sometimes it's pure luck.

You could have applied for SSN when you entered the US on K-1. Now SSA unlikely give you SSN until you get EAD / GC.

*** Topic moved from US citizenship forum to Working & Traveling during US immigration forum as the question is about work/travel permit ***

Applying for SSN prior has no bearing on EAD and AP approval timelines.

Your attorney gave you very poor advice though. You should have just applied for an SSN when you arrived as having one makes life much easier in the US. Now you will have to wait until you have either EAD or GC.
