Can I track my 1-485 and I-795 with application number?

Quick question:

I was sent an I-797C notice of Action today. This was to notify me of my biometrics appointment.

On the bottom of the page were 2 bar-codes. The first was an application number for my I-485 petition and the other was an application numebr for my I-765 petition. Is there anywhere online that i can track these?

Not by the bar codes, but you can track the Receipt Number in the upper left hand corner of the I-797 (begins with three letters...MSC, etc) on the USCIS website. If you've never tracked anything before then you set up an account and enter the receipt numbers there and be sure the option for email notifications shows a Y.

I don't know how reliable the online notifications are...sometimes it seems they are updated and sometimes all of a sudden something appears in the mail without being notified of anything.

Yes, you can. Go to USCIS website and setup an account. You will have an individual case number for each form submitted.
