DS-160 for Persian fiance

Hey guys!

 

My fiance and I will be filling out the DS-160 soon and had a few questions. A gentleman i spoke to on VJ (who also has a Persian fiance) said that he got AP while filling out his form "wrong". When I asked him what it was, he said that "If she has a job MAKE SURE you list it on the DS-160. Otherwise you will get the BLACK HOLE of AP"

 

I was a bit confused and asked him more about it, and stated that my fiance doesn't have a job at the moment to which he then commented "its good that she doesnt have a job. stick with that otherwise if she does have one they will throw you with administrative processing". 

 

I'm still new to all this and these reasons seem absolutely arbitrary but I was definitely a bit spooked by it all. 

 

Are these specific situations that can affect a Visa being given to someone from a country that is sanctioned/in conflict with US? 

 

Are there any of you that have dealt with this type of situation that have a fiance from Iran?

Never of that as a reason for extended administrative processing.  I thought it was more likely country of origin or travel history.

Pretty much all Iranians end up in the black hole of AP for obvious reasons.

Iranians are heavily vetted for US visas whether or not they have a job.

You might want to read up more on what AP actually is. Technically speaking everyone gets it, it's just that for most applicants it only lasts a few days. However, certain nationalities or people with specific backgrounds (military, STEM, or personal connections to such people) will trigger a lengthier AP by default.

So, there's no way to avoid AP if you check any of those boxes. It's just part of the process for some people and you'll have to go through it and wait it out.

I noticed in the Immigration Timeline records the last two users on here that were Iranian actually had their Visas approved within a week after the interview. This was around December '23.
