please just tell us we are being dumb and overthinking.

You're not being dumb, the very nature of this process lends itself to paranoia, overthinking, and second guessing.  Full disclosure, I went through all three at various times when I was in your shoes.

Now with that being said, you've already been given good answers in this thread and I have nothing to add.

Applying for a visitor visa and renewing your ESTA are two very different things. I'm not aware of any questions on the ESTA application that pertain to a pending visa, please let me know if I'm wrong.

I will be applying for K-1 visa shortly, but I applied successfully for ESTA last week.

hello,

i understand the overthinking part - we've all been there.

however, at USCIS they're looking for proof of an authentic relationship so I wouldn't worry too much (including the amount of evidence, they probably get this from every petition).

also, I've noticed that a lot of cases have different timelines, some are faster, others are slower.

it took us almost 14 months to get the NOA2, but other couples was less than 1 year.

best of luck to you and remember that being patient is key :)

My esta runs out in February 2025 too (won’t be able to renew with a k-1 in process I’ve been told) and my fiancé can’t afford the time off in the US to visit me so I really really hope it comes through by then atleast …

You’ll probably have your K1 and be in the US before the end of the year… I wouldn’t worry about ESTA.

you were misled, you can 100% get a new esta while waiting for K1, I did no problem. I think only visa question they ask is if you've ever been denied (or maybe applied) for immigrant visa but K1 is nonimmigrant.

As others have said you are overthinking. 32% of August is still pending. They *always* move onto new months before finishing the prior. Different case workers, diff speeds of security checks etc. If you end up being one of the last 10ish % then petitioner can try reaching out to their senators to contact USCIS on their behalf but you are 10000% still in normal processing.

I understand the anxiety you're feeling, you're not being dumb. Just wanted to send reassurance that I also sent a lot of information- plane tickets, photos, conversations, etc (I think mine was like 60 pages) in the beginning of August and was approved. I think it's just a matter of time before you hear back.

I’m on a document returned status so I think something went horribly wrong a while ago now.

they told us we didn’t need to do anything and our case is processing but I guess not.

I’ve given up and hopefully this account will be deleted soon so I don’t have to keep checking stuff.

but thanks.

What does this mean?  You applied 7 months ago.  I think you are not far from competition of this phase of the process.  Patience is the key through the entire process.  The entire journey is always pretty agonizing.  Your continued participation here and your experience will be valuable to this community.

Do you mean your case status shows "Document was returned to USCIS?"

That happens though.

Yes. We had three of these in January even though we didn’t request our document 3 times. We already have two copies of our NOA1.

Instead of making the admin loop worse we decided to contact a tier 2 officer to see what the issue was and if we needed to do anything. We received this email from a tier 2 officer (attached) and to be honest we are convinced even after this email we are on a pile collecting dust somewhere because we haven’t done an e-request (but we don’t need to since we already have this document) and they have told us our case is processing.

we aren’t sure if after this email we need to do anything else. It’s a horrible situation to be in. We don’t know what to trust. The status update tells us our case will be destroyed in July if we don’t make an e-request. This email says otherwise.

Of course! Here you go!

We had this status on 2nd, 11th and 19th January.

Our first time getting this was October. We requested the document over the phone and got nothing. In December (as they told us to contact after 30 days) we called again and they processed another copy to be sent to us which we received on December 26th. Then the multiple document returned statuses happened. We think the original document keeps getting returned so the cycle would never end.

When this happened on the 2nd we did an e-request but never got anything back. Then the two others came a week apart after that and we just thought something was weird since we are still at NOA1 stage so we just called for tier 2

No worry you guys. Our NOA1 June 01,2023 NOA2 Feb. 09. 2024. USCIS ,and NVC sent our case to US Embassy already, now CEAC status is READY. USCIS & NVC are doing great job. I don’t see anything wrong with your I-129F packets. I hope you guys are getting NOA2 pretty soon.
