Newbie... with question about out of status/AOS/employment

My friend is planning on marrying her bf/fiance who came here on visitor visa. However he is now out of status... what will happen after they get married and apply for AOS? Is it possible that they will not get approved for anything and he will have to go back home? What if he has worked without authorization? They have an attorney but I hate to see her pay all of those fees for nothing if he is not going to be able to stay here or will never be approved for a legal residency... What do you suggest she do in this situation? I know she really loves him but if they can't be together I don't really see the point in her marrying him and putting herself through all of that for nothing... Please give any advice.. Thanks!

If he came here as a visitor without the intent on marriage then should be fine, overstay is forgiven on approval of AOS.

Working illegally is also "forgiven" if you're married to a US Citizen, so will not be an issue.

The bf/fiance will be fine and dandy - all these illegal things (overstay, illegal employment) are forgiven if you're an immediate relative of a US citizen.

They'll only be denied if fraud is suspected, not because of overstay/unauthorized work.
