i have been reading the guides for filing IR/CR visa. i have noticed in the checklist of required documents that only I-864 (affidavit of support form) is listed. the letter from NVC however provides for the I-864A form which should be filled up.

when is this form needed?

and who should sign this form?

thanks a lot

***the query above was posted lastweek.

actually, after reading resource materials from several forums and the USCIS website, i have found the answer to my query. thanks to those who answered my above query though.

here is what i have found out: IF a joint-sponsor/co-sponsor is living in the same household with the primary sponsor, the joint-sponsor need only to fill up form I-864A in supplement to the form I-864 executed by the primary sponsor. the primary sponsor should submit all supporting documents for his I-864 and the joint sponsor will likewise submit supporting documents for I-864A. the income of the joint sponsor who is a household member need not reach 125% poverty guideline income. the 125% will be determined by combining the assets of the primary sponsor and joint sponsor provided they are of the same household.

the rule is different if the joint sponsor and primary sponsor are not living in the same household, in which case, the joint sponsor must reach the 125% poverty guideline requirements. if the joint sponsor's income does not reach 125%, his household member can participate in order to reach the 125% poverty guideline requirement by executing I-864A.

i hope i have clarified this matter :luv:
